Patient Access Rep - PRN - Days

Position Purpose Provides patient focused customer service. Performs outpatient & or inpatient registration & insurance verification functions; collects patient financial liability payments & ensures that patients meet financial requirements including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre‑certifications & referrals. Provides general information to hospital users, patients, families & physician offices. Employment Type Part time Shift Day Shift What You Will Do Responsible for validating/obtaining and entering demographic, clinical, financial, and insurance information into the patient accounting system by interviewing the patient, family member and/or guarantor. Performs activities that are related to registration in a variety of settings/locations and for multiple patient types (Inpatients, Outpatients, Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, Diagnostic Outpatients, Labor & Delivery, Newborn, Lab Specimens, etc). Prepare patient estimate and inform patient/guarantor of their liabilities and collect appropriate patient liabilities, including co‑payments, co‑insurances, deductibles, deposits and outstanding balances at the point of check‑in. Records payments/actions in the patient accounting system and provides the patient with a payment receipt. Obtains signed physician orders for all tests and procedures from physicians/offices. Prepares identification bracelets and patient ID labels. Obtains/scans patient/guarantor signatures on required forms (ID cards, insurance cards, consent to treatment, assignment of benefits, release of information, waivers, etc.). May audit & record the patient’s valuables, securing appropriate authorizations, if needed. Hours/Schedule PRN Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire. Experience Minimum one (1) year customer service experience. Patient Access experience preferred. Special Skills And Competencies Annual assessment of competency is completed every year. Must be able to read, write and/or speak English. Computer/PC experience/skills are required. Typing (40 words per minute) or data entry (50‑60 keystrokes per minute) preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology desired. Excellent communication skills verbal & written, interpersonal skills are necessary in dealing with internal and external customers, including the ability to interpret customer requirements, recommend and take action to satisfy the customer’s needs. Accuracy, attentiveness to detail and time management skills required.
