Overview The Bureau of Field Operations is responsible for the survey and certification process of health care facilities across the State of Florida. These surveys ensure that all state‑licensed, and federally certified health care facilities meet established state and/or federal requirements and that patients and residents receive safe, quality health care. Field Operations staff also ensure the safety of residents in health care facilities when emergencies, such as natural disasters, occur. The Work You Will Do The primary function of the Fire Protection Specialist is to provide life safety inspection expertise for the licensure and certification of health care facilities. The incumbent will perform on‑site surveys, document findings, and prepare reports. The incumbent will provide specialized work on all aspects of fire safety, fire prevention, and other life safety areas, including understanding and enforcement of national, state, and local NFPA codes and laws. Responsibilities include conducting surveys of other types of licensed providers as assigned by management. The incumbent must be proficient with computer equipment and software programs such as Microsoft Word and Outlook, and with smartphone technology, and must be available to work before and after normal work hours, including weekends and holidays. This position requires successful completion of all CMS QSEP training for Life Safety within six months of hire. Minimum Qualifications Fire Safety Inspector I certification pursuant to Chapter 633.261, F.S. and Chapter 69A‑39, F.A.C. Two (2) years of professional or paraprofessional experience in fire prevention, fire protection systems installations, or other construction‑inspection related experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field. This position is required to complete Basic Life Safety training within six months of hire. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements Fire Safety Inspector I Certificate of Compliance in accordance with Chapter 633.261, F.S. and Chapter 69A‑39, F.A.C. Ability to climb ladders to inspect smoke/fire walls and roof‑mounted equipment. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time while performing surveys. Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and equipment used in fire safety preventions. Ability to conduct fire inspections for fire safety and prevention.
