Position Overview

Our client, a highly regarded law firm with a sophisticated matrimonial and family law practice, is seeking a Family Law Litigation Paralegal to join its Chicago office.

\n

\n

This position will support attorneys across all phases of family law litigation, with a particular focus on discovery, case and document management, financial analysis, and preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials. The role requires frequent interaction with clients and responsibility for managing substantial document productions and financial disclosures.

\n

\n

The position operates in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and is well suited for a detail-oriented paralegal who can independently manage assignments while working collaboratively with attorneys and other members of the litigation team.

\n

\n

The standard schedule is 8:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The position is expected to transition to a hybrid schedule in Chicago following completion of training, which is estimated to take approximately six months depending on the candidate's experience.

Key Responsibilities

\n

\n
• Assist attorneys with all phases of family law litigation, including discovery, financial analysis, document management, and trial preparation.
\n
• Manage large-scale document productions, including both incoming and outgoing discovery materials.
\n
• Work directly with clients to gather documents, respond to discovery requests, and complete required financial disclosures.
\n
• Prepare financial affidavits and balance sheets.
\n
• Draft and coordinate discovery requests, responses, and Illinois Supreme Court Rule 201(k) correspondence.
\n
• Draft subpoenas and accompanying riders and coordinate service and follow-up to facilitate compliance.
\n
• Review, organize, index, analyze, and summarize financial records and discovery materials for attorney review.
\n
• Perform financial analysis relevant to matrimonial matters, including dissipation and tracing analyses.
\n
• Prepare paper and electronic exhibits and corresponding exhibit lists for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.
\n
• Maintain and monitor calendars for discovery deadlines and other case-related requirements.
\n
• Follow up proactively on outstanding assignments and discovery matters to ensure deadlines are met.
\n
• Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, experts, and other outside resources by telephone, in writing, and in person.
\n
• Assist with administrative and case-management responsibilities as necessary to support the litigation team.
\n
• Manage multiple time-sensitive assignments and respond effectively to urgent requests and changing priorities.

Qualifications

\n

\n
• 3+ years of family law litigation experience or litigation paralegal experience.
\n
• Demonstrated experience with litigation discovery and case management.
\n
• Strong document-management and organizational capabilities.
\n
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly when interacting with attorneys and clients.
\n
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of assignments, and follow matters through completion.
\n
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and urgent assignments in a fast-paced litigation environment.
\n
• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative legal team.
\n
• Strong attention to detail and comfort working with financial and discovery records.
\n

Technical Requirements

\n

Candidates should have proficiency or relevant experience with:

\n

\n
• Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
\n
• Kofax and Adobe Acrobat for PDF conversion and document handling.
\n
• Database management.
\n
• Legal document management systems.
\n
• Legal research platforms, including PACER and Westlaw.
\n
• Legal billing systems; experience with Centerbase is beneficial.
\n

Preferred

\n

\n
• Paralegal certification is preferred, although candidates with equivalent substantive litigation experience will also be considered.
\n
• Familiarity with Family Law Software is a plus.
\n
• Prior experience supporting matrimonial or family law matters involving complex financial discovery, asset tracing, or dissipation analysis is particularly relevant.
