Bus Drivers

School Bus Driver

The bus driver position, under the supervision of a manager or supervisor, operates a bus over designated routes transporting school students, or clients to and from school or other locations. In addition, a bus driver may transport students, teachers, staff and/or parents on school sponsored trips. Bus drivers may work with loud and disruptive clients.

The bus driver position involves:

• Driving a bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations and schools.
• Transporting school students, teachers, staff and/or parents on school activity trips.
• Performing daily inspections of buses and associated equipment prior to transportation of passengers.
• Maintaining good order and discipline among school students or clients.
• Following company policies regarding student/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, staff, and the public in general.
• Verifying route turn for turn sheets and noting any route changes with written notes.
• Making additional directional or landmark notations on bus route sheets to assist future new or substitute bus drivers.
• Observing and tracking route timing, such as total time en-route; time between stops; loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency.
• Keeping records and submitting reports as required.
• Sweep, clean and refuel buses.
• Reporting all mechanical deficiencies promptly.
• Advising students on safe riding instructions and performing evacuation drills as directed.
• All other duties as assigned.

Education, experience and skills required:

1. Clean driving record
2. Certified school bus driver with class B endorsement P-S
3. Friendly, out-going, pleasant.

Physical demands:

• The School Bus Driver has a moderately strenuous job. The Driver must sit for long periods and requires intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions.
• The School Bus Driver must work in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.

Sensory demands:

• The School Bus Driver requires intense concentration.

Mental demands:

• The Driver must maintain order and discipline on the bus while driving in a safe and appropriate manner. Stress can be caused by the need to address behavior issues and discipline problems
