Job Title: Nurse Practitioner – Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit/PICU – Mount Sinai Hospital – Full Time – Night A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an RN with advanced clinical nursing education who independently diagnoses, treats, and prescribes for patients within their specialty. The NP in this role will provide comprehensive, evidence‑based care to pediatric patients in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Responsibilities Assess health status of patients/families through comprehensive history and physical examination. Initiate and order therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, lab tests, and prescribe medication regimens. Interpret findings and adjust plans of care per accepted standards and guidelines. Educate and counsel on health promotion, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Document findings and plans of care in the medical record. Consult with physicians per established standards, policies, and protocols. Provide age‑appropriate care, considering physical, psychosocial, and educational needs. Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and conferences. Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information. Develop and implement plans of care based on individual diagnoses. Record, report, and interpret patient responses to care plans. Perform collaborative practice agreements record reviews every three months. Complete required professional practice evaluations (FPPE/OPPE). Practice as a member of the allied health staff under hospital regulations. Treat coworkers, patients, and families with dignity and respect. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Perform comprehensive history taking and physical assessment. Document competencies in specialty procedures per standard guidelines. Apply nursing research principles. Manage and coordinate patient caseloads. Work within Collaborative Practice Agreements. Maintain physical stamina and manual dexterity. Exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills. Education Requirements New York State RN license with current registration. Certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the New York State Department of Education. Graduated from a New York State NP program or certified through a national association. Completed required pharmacy component and related coursework. Collaborative Practice Agreement for NPs with 3600 practice hours. Experience Previous progressive experience relevant to pediatric cardiac intensive care is required. Certifications and Licensure DEA certificate. Basic Life Support (BLS). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS). Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing (required for all NPs hired as of June 1, 2019; may be deferred up to one year with approval).
