Provides snow and ice removal work during winter months, and provides other services as assigned.Description of DutiesDescription of Essential Duties:Secures general instructions for work assignments from Lead Groundskeeper.Repairs and maintains all Quad Cities Campus and satellite site roadways, lots, and pathways.Performs all outdoor grounds maintenance, mowing, irrigation, landscaping, pest disease control measures; inclusive of all trees, shrubbery, plants, etc.Performs tree maintenance for maintaining a healthy and safe environment; includes trimming, pruning, removal, etc.Keeps entrances to College cleaned and picked up.Performs first level maintenance on all grounds equipment, vehicles, operation logs, and service records.Performs snow and ice removal and salt spreading and utilizing all appropriate equipment and outdoor assignments during winter months.Installs and repairs sod; seeds; applies fertilizer, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.Operates power equipment, heavy equipment, and hand tools while observing College safety procedures.Works overtime hours as needed.Maintains a valid CDL Illinois driver's license.Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.Attends required trainings as needed.Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.Description of Other Duties:Performs emergency acetylene welding repairs on vital equipment.Coordinates and plans moving of College equipment; assembles equipment as needed.Maintains inventory and orders supplies.Builds and constructs items for the department.Coordinates the removal of recycling materials, including delivery of materials; maintains records on program and implementation progress and coordinates recycle persons.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Overall Accountability:Demonstrates BHC core values.Accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of work.Dependability.Ability to work cooperatively with others.Ability to communicate in pleasant manner with others.Ability to work with little or no supervision.Principal Working Relationships:Works directly with the Lead Groundskeeper and the Facilities Superintendent.Works cooperatively with departmental personnel.Works cooperatively with Maintenance and Custodial departments.Works cooperatively with all others.Education & Experience(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis required.Agriculture or horticulture background with one or more years experience in a similar position required.Ability to follow instructions with minimum supervision required.Ability to read and understand operation manuals relating to equipment used.Familiarity with acetylene welding preferred.Ability to communicate effectively with others required.Knowledge of mechanical maintenance or an interest in maintenance type work desired.Public operator's I.D. card for turf pesticide control from the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture and Bureau of Environment preferred.Ability to work under difficult conditions including inclement weather, and hazardous conditions.Valid Illinois CDL driver license required or must obtain within 60 days of employment.The above statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the principle functions of the described job; it is not an all-encompassing statement of all the work requirements that may be necessary to perform the job.
