Job Title: Critical Care Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 1845-0715 Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum years of critical care experience in a hospital setting License: Valid professional nursing license within the state of practice Certifications: Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association, NIH stroke scale certification, verification of suicide training Must-Have: Proof of right to work in the United States Description: Critical Care Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Critical Care Nurses include: Consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Preparing and administering (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and recording prescribed medications. Reporting adverse reactions to medications or treatments following policy. Providing basic bedside care. Initiating patient education plans as prescribed by a physician. Teaching patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, self-administration of medication, and rehabilitation. Recording patients' medical information and vital signs. Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' conditions. Taking samples for lab work, ordering prescribed lab work, and evaluating/interpreting lab reports. Preparing equipment and aiding physicians during examination and treatment of patients. Responding to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols. Recording all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner. Applying hemodynamic, phlebotomy, and IV protocols. Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment used on patients and interpreting and recording electronic displays. Monitoring catheters, leads, and tubing for proper placement and functioning. Initiating corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology. Additional Information: Holiday coverage is required. Bilingual skills are not required. EMR used is Meditech.
