Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring a CA RN license, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• 12-bed ICU in an acute care hospital setting
• Medical/Surgical ICU treating patients with non-STEMIs, CVA, multi-organ failure, sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-op complications
• Comfort care patients are common and remain in the ICU
• Bedside procedures include TEEs and bronchoscopies
• Patient ratios typically 1:1-2, with 1:1 assignments occurring infrequently
• Charge nurse generally does not take patients but provides break relief
• No dedicated nurse aides or IV team on the unit
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house
• Uses Cerner EMR
• 12-hour night shifts from 07:00 PM to 07:30 AM with bedside report
• Self-scheduling available, finalized by management, with schedules posted 4 weeks out
• Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required within a 4-week period
• Holiday coverage rotates in with core staff
• First to float among assigned facilities, with occasional mid-shift float to another location
• Multidisciplinary rounds conducted during day shift

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (AHA)
• Must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Experience with ventilator management required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Must complete a Dysrhythmia Basic exam through UNA prior to acceptance, with pass/fail results within 24-48 hours (2 attempts allowed)
• Sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required on first day of orientation
• Two supervisory professional references required, one within the last 12 months and one within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
• Valid driver's license required to confirm legal name matches government-issued ID

Additional Information

• 1-2 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Provide direct patient care within a multidisciplinary ICU team
• Participate in daytime multidisciplinary rounds
• Scrub color is navy, with undershirts in navy, white, or black; navy scrub jackets optional
• Holiday time off may be requested but is not guaranteed; travelers are expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year
• Failure of required testing (Dysrhythmia or Sterile Technique) after 2 attempts results in do-not-use status for 6 months within the CommonSpirit Sacramento and Arizona region
