The Center for Population Health Sciences (PHS) at Stanford University is seeking a Biostatistician 2 to collaborate with investigators across the university on data analysis projects, focusing on electronic health record (EHR) and administrative claims data. Duties Apply causal inference methods such as entropy balancing, instrumental variables, regression decomposition, and propensity scoring approaches. Analyze large real‑world observational data from EHR datasets such as Cosmos and Truveta. Use epidemiologic concepts to design appropriate studies. Communicate study designs and results clearly to clinical and policy stakeholders. Use clinical terminology and disease etiologies when working with clinical experts. Tailor complex statistical and analytical approaches for diverse audiences with a teaching orientation. Mentor and teach students, junior analysts, and trainees in medicine, economics, and public health. Construct complex data pipelines (ETL) for large datasets. Work with private and public administrative claims datasets such as MarketScan, Medicare, and Medicaid. Write methodology and results sections for manuscripts in medical and public health journals. Use the OMOP common data model as a developer or user. Validate raw data and assess its suitability for downstream processing. Manage multiple collaborations and projects concurrently. Apply a range of statistical methods including hierarchical regression, parametric survival models, machine learning approaches (e.g., XGBoost, random forests, cluster analysis), and others as needed. Other duties may be assigned as required. Desired Qualifications Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, or related field and at least 3 years of experience. Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA. Experience in descriptive analysis, data modeling, and graphical data presentation. Excellent communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences. Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, such as study coordination, missing data methodology, survival analysis, statistical genetics, informatics, statistical computing, database design (e.g., RedCAP or MySQL), or advanced graphical techniques. Certifications & Licenses None. Physical Requirements Frequent desk‑based computer tasks, seated work, and light/fine grasping. Occasional standing, walking, writing by hand, and lifting, carrying, or moving objects up to 10 pounds.
