College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. Our department is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy has as its core mission the advancement of outstanding research and education. We work collaboratively to discover new knowledge through innovative biomedical research, to transmit that knowledge to students, and to train future researchers, educators, and health care professionals.

Job Summary

Perform various experiments and procedures related to vision research.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

Perform data conversion and analysis.

Perform various cell biology experiments including imaging studies.

Cell culture procedures.

Assist with mouse experiments and mouse colony maintenance.

Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with general laboratory procedures as well as a willingness to learn new techniques and procedures. Experience working with mice including colony maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and equipment. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel along with other computer software/databases

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Ability to manage and schedule time to ensure needs of research project are met.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).

Salary Minimum: $17.88 hourly.

Pay Band: B5

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
