Research Specialist, Biology

Perform defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and schedules Set up experiments as prescribed by the principal investigator Conduct studies in fruit flies (Drosophila) investigating how neural circuits process information Perform dissections and immunostaining of fly brains, behavioral assays, optogenetic manipulations, and in vivo imaging of neural activity Assist with building experimental hardware or writing software, depending on interests and skills Maintain fly stocks and perform general laboratory tasks Participate in laboratory maintenance, including sterilization, equipment cleaning, supply ordering, inventory, and media preparation Maintain records, files, and logs in laboratory notebooks and computer databases Compile study data and results for publications, grants, and seminar presentations Work closely with the principal investigator Perform related responsibilities as required by the principal investigator Requirements Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training Previous research experience Background in a STEM field such as biology or neuroscience Experience working with Drosophila, using neuroscience techniques, and/or programming is favorably considered Good organizational and problem‑solving skills Ability to multitask Attention to detail A one- to two‑year commitment is expected Ability to work with, take precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents may be required Cover letter describing scientific background and interest in the lab Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in conducting laboratory experiments and research, particularly with Drosophila, while maintaining meticulous records and collaborating effectively with the principal investigator.
