Job Overview

The Orthopedic Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner assists in providing seamless care to orthopedic surgical and nonsurgical patients by acting as a liaison between supervising physicians and other medical providers such as hospitalists and consultants as well as communicating and coordinating care with OR scheduling, patient support person and/or family members.

General Responsibilities

Completes ordered orthopedic consultations, ER and nursing unit, as requested for supervising physicians. Orders appropriate testing/imaging for patient evaluation and pre-operative testing for surgical patients. Contacts physician when consultation is complete. Schedules operative cases after consulting with supervising physician. Performs daily rounds on patients and orders appropriate testing including radiographs, labs, and urgent studies. Communicates updates with attending MD/APP. Enters post operative orders. Performs appropriate bedside procedures such as aspirations, injections, and application of splints, braces, and casts, bedside incisions and drainage, as well as closed reductions. Assists in surgical procedures as needed. Always demonstrates Service Excellence standards. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Masters Degree required. Doctoral degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. 5-7 years specialized medical training. Minimum of 3 years of orthopedic assistance preferred. Must be board certified. Must hold or be able to obtain an active Florida Medical Licensure prior to start. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS at start date. Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS at start date. Basic computer skills. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with many different surgeons who follow different protocols. Must be self-directed, organized and possess effective communication skills when communicating with physicians and hospital staff.
