Scheduling Specialist - HS

Job Summary Under indirect supervision, schedules patients for surgery according to the type of surgery (urgent or routine) and established access standards. The Surgery Scheduling Coordinator ensures that the surgical encounter (outpatient vs. inpatient) is coordinated properly and scheduled accurately and efficiently. This role is responsible for providing the highest quality customer service to members, practitioners, and external surgical sites through the coordination of multidisciplinary care. The Coordinator manages surgical schedules, cross-specialty schedules, and the availability of appropriate equipment and supplies for surgical cases, acting as a liaison between Specialists, PCPs, and Hospitalists. Additional duties include data processing, diagnostic reporting, clinical information gathering, verification of coverage, QRM authorization, and completing pre-operative requirements (including obtaining authorizations from outside insurers for Medicaid patients). Key Responsibilities Answer incoming calls and provide exceptional customer service over the phone. Book surgeries, as well as pre-operative and post-operative appointments. Update, cancel, and reschedule patients for surgery using incoming calls, data queues, and reporting tools. Coordinate information flow between internal providers, external practitioners, and hospital staff. Gather clinical information, verify insurance coverage, and process pre-operative requirements and authorizations. Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available for scheduled surgical cases. Qualifications & Requirements Education: High School Diploma required. Experience: Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience required. At least 1 year of healthcare experience is strongly preferred. Core Skills: phone-based customer service skills, basic PC proficiency, and excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
