Richmond, Virginia, United States, 23219 Information Technology & Security Virginia Retirement System Title: Senior Software Engineer (Hybrid Schedule) Agency: Virginia Retirement System Location: Virginia Retirement System - Main Office FLSA: Exempt Hiring Range: 130,000-145,000 Full Time or Part Time: Full time Additional Detail Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform analysis and design for medium-sized to large complex development and maintenance projects. Develop complex code and configuration data using secure coding practices. Ensure that all code, configuration data, and system documentation is accurate, complete, understandable, and adheres to VRS standards. Develop test plans for functionality, and test scenarios and scripts to ensure comprehensive testing of business functionality. Develop new and update existing applications in support of the VRS business teams and participating employers, members, and retirees. Develop and maintain critical business applications. Research and analyze existing and potential systems, and make recommendations. Mentor less experienced team members, reviewing code as required. Provide expert knowledge of standards and best practices for ASP and .Net development. Provide timely support for production issues and serve as backup to production support. Work in partnership with the technical teams and business partners to deliver business functionality on time with required quality. Provide cross-team support as needed to achieve technical goals, knowledge sharing, and APOs. Develop and document technical processes and methodologies. Address security vulnerabilities, using suitable tools to assure security and analyze outputs; recommend corrective actions. Complete administrative tasks and attend meetings as required. Participate in a team environment, supporting colleagues and conducting peer reviews as necessary. Participate in cross-hierarchal teams and contribute to improving services across agency lines. Effectively works with all levels of management and staff to improve processes and procedures. Participate in an on-call rotation that provides technology support outside of normal business hours. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a closely-related field. Must have a minimum of five years of experience in front-end development, including experience with ASP, .Net, Angular, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, SSIS, and SSRS. Experience in debugging and analysis is required, as well as experience in developing large, complex, interconnected systems on various software platforms. Other education and experience may be considered. Additional Considerations Advanced knowledge of technology principles, best practices, and procedures relevant to completing complex software development assignments. Ability and desire to learn new technologies. Demonstrated troubleshooting skills, problem resolution abilities, and customer service skills. Ability to work with incomplete information and develop suitable solutions to meet business needs. Ability to work as part of a team, accepting and providing guidance amongst team members as appropriate. Abilities to effectively communicate; collaborate; prioritize; deal with multiple and changing priorities; meet deadlines. The current hybrid schedule for technology employees is 3 days onsite in Richmond, VA (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and 2 days remote (Monday and Friday).
