Senior Supervisor, Vegetation Management

Job Purpose The Distribution Vegetation Management program at National Grid utilizes an internal management staff and an external contractor workforce to effectively deliver the annual program across New York. Major program components include annual cycle pruning, hazard tree mitigation programs, customer/new business work and various system reliability projects. The Supervisor position will oversee the daily activities of the contractor workforce to ensure completion of the Annual Vegetation Management program in accordance with all NGRID requirements and will work out of the Beacon North Facility. Key Accountabilities Execution of a Vegetation Management sourcing model that utilizes external resources to deliver the annual workplan per the Asset management strategy. Ensure that the Forestry workplan is delivered in accordance with the annual budget and schedule constraints, as outlined by the appropriate Jurisdiction Execute comprehensive field audits to ensure contractor compliance with vegetation management line clearances and specifications Evaluate Forestry contractor performance relative to NGRID safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Execute Effective Safety Discussions (ESD) and Compliance Assessments (CA) per the agreed monthly targets. Implementation of NGRID Forestry Storm/Emergency restoration policies and procedures. Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the minor and major restoration efforts Through inter-departmental coordination, provide professional, technical and legal input in support of other NGRID strategies and objectives Through external public relations, deliver and encourage public Forestry education. Respond to customer inquiries and concerns while fostering and maintaining an effective working relationship with local officials. Attend various customer, community and municipal meetings as required. Monitor contractor productivity to ensure timely assignment and completion of customer related work requests via the Work Management System. Approve contractor timesheets and certify work as complete, prior to authorizing payments. Provide off hour coverage on a regular basis for routine emergencies as well as significant storm events. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: Minimum of a two-year degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Forestry or a related natural resources field from an accredited school or related Line Clearance field experience required. Must be self-motivated with strong public speaking skills Must demonstrate effective decision making, leadership capabilities and fiscal management. Valid driver’s license required. Support significant storm events through extended workdays, overnight shift coverage, etc. Travel to alternate locations / jurisdictions as required to support these events is required. Ability to traverse rough terrain (foot patrols) in remote locations while performing field crew visits and supporting field storm response is essential. Preferred: Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910.269 Line Clearance Tree Trimming Operations, American National Standard A-300 & Z-133 National Electrical Safety Requirements for Arboricultural Operations strongly preferred. Desired work related experience in the following areas: utility line clearance, contractor management, fiscal accountability, managerial decision making, public speaking, and natural resource field experience Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture Salary $103,000 - $121,000 a year National Grid will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future.
