IT Systems Support Specialist – Healthcare Position Type: Full-Time / Contract Reports To: IT Manager Focus: Tier 1/2 Support | Healthcare IT | EHR/EMR | Microsoft 365 | Active Directory/Entra | Clinical Systems Position Overview We are seeking an IT Systems Support Specialist to provide frontline technical support across clinical and administrative systems within a healthcare environment. This position combines traditional Tier 1/Tier 2 desktop and systems support with healthcare-specific technology, including EHR/EMR applications, clinical devices, user-access management, Microsoft technologies, networking, and IT security. The ideal candidate is comfortable working directly with nurses, physicians, administrative staff, and other end users in a fast-paced clinical environment where responsiveness and system availability are critical. Key Responsibilities Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for clinical and administrative applications. Troubleshoot hardware, software, network connectivity, printers, servers, and integrated clinical equipment. Support Microsoft 365, Epic, Meditech, and other clinical applications. Maintain and troubleshoot: Desktop computers and workstations Workstations on Wheels (WoWs) Badge readers Barcode scanners Printers and peripherals Respond quickly to technology issues affecting high-priority areas such as operating rooms and conference rooms. Monitor and maintain servers, virtual machines, cloud/local storage, and SaaS applications. Assist with software updates, patches, backups, and routine system maintenance. Manage onboarding/offboarding and user access through Active Directory and Microsoft Azure/Entra. Create and maintain user accounts, profiles, permissions, and access controls. Support compliance with HIPAA, data privacy, and healthcare IT security requirements. Assist with IT security incidents and monitor access logs for irregularities. Enforce password and cybersecurity policies. Manage service desk tickets from intake through resolution and elevate complex issues appropriately. Create user guides, procedures, technical documentation, and knowledge-base articles. Train end users on new software, system updates, and downtime procedures. Collaborate with departments and vendors during system implementations, upgrades, integrations, and hardware relocations. Support IT projects including new unit openings and clinical workflow enhancements. Required Qualifications Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Previous professional IT support experience. Hands‑on troubleshooting experience across: Windows Hardware and peripherals Software/applications Microsoft 365 User accounts and access Basic networking Experience with Active Directory and/or Microsoft Azure/Entra. Experience working with ticketing/service desk systems. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and customer-service skills. Ability to independently prioritize multiple technical issues in a fast-paced environment. Strong documentation and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Previous IT support experience in a hospital, healthcare, or clinical environment. Working knowledge of healthcare IT and clinical workflows. Experience supporting EHR/EMR platforms such as: Epic Meditech Cerner PACS Network connectivity and troubleshooting experience. Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare data-security requirements. Experience supporting clinical hardware and integrated medical technology. Experience supporting system implementations, upgrades, and technology deployments.
