Position Summary

The Instrumentation Wiring Panelist is responsible for assembling, wiring, and terminating instrumentation panels, harnesses, and control assemblies used in aerospace applications. This role requires precision hand skills, the ability to interpret complex wiring diagrams and schematics, and strict adherence to aerospace quality and workmanship standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739, or customer-specific specifications).

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, engineering drawings, and bills of material (BOMs) to build instrumentation panels and wire harnesses
• Cut, strip, and terminate wire to specification using crimping, soldering, and splicing techniques
• Install connectors, terminals, lugs, backshells, and other hardware in accordance with engineering documentation
• Route, dress, lace, and secure wire bundles per approved workmanship standards
• Perform continuity, point-to-point, and functional testing of completed panels and harnesses
• Label and identify wires, cables, and components per drawing callouts and specifications
• Mount and wire instrumentation components (gauges, sensors, switches, relays, terminal blocks, transducers) into panels and enclosures
• Identify and document non-conformances; support root cause and corrective action activities
• Maintain a clean, organized, and FOD (Foreign Object Debris)-free work area in compliance with aerospace manufacturing standards
• Complete accurate work order documentation, traveler sign-offs, and inspection records
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to resolve build issues and drawing discrepancies
• Adhere to all safety, ESD (electrostatic discharge), and quality procedures

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience in electrical/electronic wiring, harness assembly, or panel wiring, preferably in aerospace, defense, or another highly regulated industry
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
• Proficiency with hand tools, crimp tools, wire strippers, and soldering equipment
• Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 or J-STD-001 workmanship standards (certification preferred)
• Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for fine, precise work
• Basic math skills and ability to use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, wire gauges)
• Ability to read and follow written work instructions and travelers

Preferred Qualifications

• IPC/WHMA-A-620 and/or J-STD-001 certification
• Experience with military or aerospace-specific wiring specifications (e.g., NASA-STD-8739.4, MIL-DTL-38999 connectors)
• Familiarity with ERP/MES systems for work order tracking
• Prior experience in a AS9100-certified manufacturing environment
• Soldering certification (J-STD-001 or equivalent)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
• Manual dexterity for handling small components and fine wire work
• Ability to use magnification tools/microscopes for detailed inspection
• Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs
• Good near-vision (corrected) for detailed assembly work
