About the Role: Grade Level (for internal use): 12 The Team As an Associate Director on our Life/Health Insurance team, you will join a supportive and collaborative group of approximately 15 analysts with diverse backgrounds and experiences in the financial services sector. Our team specializes in conducting comprehensive credit analysis for life/health insurance financial strength and debt ratings, working closely with analytical colleagues across the U.S. & Canada. The Impact In this role, you will be directly responsible for shaping credit opinions that influence market decisions and investor confidence. Your analytical expertise will drive rating recommendations for assigned insurance entities, while your participation as a voting member of rating committees will help determine outcomes that impact the broader financial services landscape. Through rigorous analytical work, mentoring junior team members, and engaging with clients and stakeholders, you will contribute to maintaining S&P Global’s reputation as the industry leader in credit analysis and ratings. What’s in it for you: Work alongside highly skilled professionals in a global financial services environment Gain exposure to complex credit analysis and financial modeling across diverse insurance entities Develop leadership skills through coaching and mentoring junior analysts Build expertise in regulatory compliance and risk assessment within the insurance sector Opportunity to present findings to internal and external audiences, including potential conference presentations and media interactions Experience a culture that values analytical rigor, collaboration, and professional growth Responsibilities Serve as the primary analyst for assigned issuers, preparing well-supported rating recommendations for rating committees with clear rating reports supporting our credit opinions Serve as an active, vocal voting member of rating committees, which deliberate rating outcomes and review materials prior to publication Publish timely and insightful credit reports as well as contribute to relevant research pieces Demonstrate strong knowledge of ratings criteria and financial statement analysis, while staying informed on relevant news and issues affecting credit quality in the industry and broader market Coach and mentor junior analysts, providing analytical support to team members and fostering a collaborative environment Connect your day-to-day analytical work with broader team priorities and strategic objectives Engage with clients and stakeholders to gather information, present findings, and address inquiries in a professional manner, demonstrating solid presentation skills in front of internal and external audiences Operate effectively in a regulated compliance driven environment leveraging workflow systems Apply solutions to complex analytical issues while taking an end-to-end view of credit assessment processes Take initiative to identify potential credit risks and suggest process improvements to enhance analytical quality Deliver high-quality analytical work consistently while meeting critical deadlines Identify and resolve analytical challenges using data-driven approaches and creative problem-solving All employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 2 days per week What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics, or related analytical field; MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred 6+ years of experience in financial statement analysis, accounting concepts, and financial modeling, preferably with experience in corporate credit analysis Strong client-facing skills with ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to diverse audiences Ability to think independently and critically with strong integrity, analytical curiosity, problem-solving, and research skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) for internal and external stakeholder interactions Strong attention to detail and demonstrated quantitative analysis capabilities Ability to accurately interpret financial data and appropriately apply analytical criteria to generate key insights and conclusions Collaborative team player with ability to work independently and willingness to support team initiatives Proactive and organized with excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple competing deadlines Strong understanding of financial reporting and capital markets, with knowledge of credit rating methodologies preferred Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and aptitude for learning proprietary analytical software and databases Additional Preferred Qualifications Experience in mentoring or coaching junior professionals in analytical roles Demonstrated presentation experience with internal and external stakeholders Knowledge of insurance industry regulations and compliance requirements Experience with financial modeling and forecasting for insurance entities Compensation / Benefits Information The anticipated base salary range for this position is $120,000 – $192,000 depending on location, experience, and skills. This role is eligible for an annual incentive plan and additional S&P Global benefits.
