Experienced Urgent Care Veterinarian – Full-Time or Part-Time

• Salary: $135,000–$155,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
• Production: 22% ProSal with no negative accrual
• Earning Potential: More than $190,000 annually, depending on productivity
• Sign-On Bonus: Up to $20,000

Ark Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care is growing under the leadership of our Veterinary Medical Director, Dr. Kwiatkowski, and is seeking experienced veterinarians to join our urgent care team in Henrietta, New York.

This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys managing urgent and borderline emergency cases but wants to move away from overnight ER shifts. Candidates should be confident performing surgery and dentistry and comfortable managing a fast-paced, diverse caseload that includes dogs, cats, and exotic pets.

We are open to both full-time and part-time candidates and can offer flexibility in structuring the schedule around the needs of the right doctors.

The Role

As an Urgent Care Veterinarian, you will provide same-day care for sick and injured pets requiring prompt medical attention, diagnostics, stabilization, and treatment. Our caseload includes urgent and borderline emergency presentations without the requirement of overnight shifts traditionally associated with emergency medicine.

Cases may include:

• Acute gastrointestinal conditions
• Dermatologic flares
• Musculoskeletal injuries
• Urinary and ocular concerns
• Respiratory distress
• Wounds, lacerations, and abscesses
• Pain-management cases
• Toxin exposures
• Foreign bodies
• Other non-life-threatening emergencies
• Urgent surgical procedures, including wound repair, abscess drainage, and foreign-body removal
• Dentistry when needed

Many patients can be stabilized and treated on-site without requiring transfer to an emergency hospital. Although experience treating exotic pets is welcomed, it is not required. Our team can support doctors who are interested in expanding their knowledge of reptiles, birds, and pocket pets.

Clinical Volume and Case Mix

Our appointment-based model provides a steady and engaging caseload while allowing doctors to plan their days more effectively.

• Average visits per veterinarian: Approximately 12 per day
• Average daily DVM revenue: $4,500–$7,200
• Appointment mix: Approximately 15% wellness and 85% urgent care
• Patient mix: Dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and pocket pets
• No overnight shifts

Clients must call ahead to secure an urgent care appointment. Once the hospital is fully booked for the day, additional cases are handled by individual doctor discretion or medical director support.

A Schedule That Respects Your Time

A typical full-time schedule consists of approximately 36-40 hours across three or four days per week:

• Three 12-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts
• Each shift includes a 2-hour lunch break and a one-hour dinner break
• Doctors generally see patients for approximately 7 to 9 hours per full shift, with additional time built in for charting and callbacks
• Evening coverage with no overnight shifts
• Weekend availability is required, ideally two weekends per month
• Saturday through Tuesday coverage is especially helpful, but we are flexible
• Doctors are not expected to work past their regularly scheduled shifts
• Shifts may be grouped together to accommodate doctors commuting from surrounding areas

We value work-life balance and are happy to discuss adjustments to the standard schedule. Part-time opportunities are also available, and schedules can be developed according to the doctor's availability and the hospital's coverage needs.

Experienced Clinical Leadership

Medical Director, Dr. Tiffany Kwiatkowski, is a Western New York native with more than 15 years of clinical experience. She has an extensive background in general practice, surgery, emergency and critical care, and preventive medicine. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical training at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

• No overnight shifts. Practice urgent and emergency-style medicine without committing to an overnight ER schedule.
• Flexible scheduling. We are open to full-time and part-time arrangements, grouped shifts, and schedules that support a healthy work-life balance.
• Strong clinical support. Our hospital maintains an approximately 2:1 staff-to-doctor ratio, with 13 licensed veterinary technicians, 4 veterinary assistants, and 7 client service representatives.
• A manageable appointment-based model. Once the schedule reaches capacity, doctors are not expected to continue accepting additional cases.
• A diverse caseload. Treat dogs, cats, and exotic pets while continuing to develop your urgent care, surgical, and dental skills.
• Collaborative leadership. Work with an experienced Medical Director who values clinical excellence, communication, and professional development.
• Partnership opportunities. Through Veterinary Practice Partners, veterinarians may have the opportunity to become practice co-owners while receiving support in operations, marketing, recruiting, and finance.

Requirements

• DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree
• Valid New York veterinary license or ability to obtain one
• Prior clinical experience in general practice, urgent care, or emergency medicine
• Confidence performing routine and urgent surgical procedures
• Dentistry experience
• Ability to manage urgent and borderline emergency cases
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient care
