Construction Project Manager

Ramsey County is seeking a Construction Project Manager for oversight of building projects from pre-construction to final delivery. Projects include tenant improvements, capital asset replacements, and new construction. Manage projects from initial programming through solicitation process and move-in or commissioning. Assist in development of workplace and construction standards.

Provide all aspects of project management including establishing and administering project scope, budgets, timelines and coordinating project activities; and perform related duties as assigned.

Examples of Work Performed

Define project scope, goals, deliverables and timelines; coordinate project activities for the duration of a project; ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations; and manage existing legal agreements.

Estimate cost, manage project budgets and efficiently allocate resources.

Provide communication to internal and external stakeholders including regular project updates and managing stakeholders' expectations.

Prepare Request for Proposals for professional services related to preparation of plans and specifications, provide input into negotiations and purchase process; evaluate bids and make recommendations for contract awards; and administer contracts.

Identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies; manage dispute resolutions.

Ensure all project deliverables meet project timelines; develop quality control standards and processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in business administration, management or in a field related to area assigned.

Experience: Five years of experience in project management in the area assigned.

Substitution: Equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Certifications/Licensure: None.

Exam/Screening Process Information

The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:

The examination for Construction Project Manager will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions do not mark "see resume" or "see work history" as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.

Eligible List: The names of all applicants who filed a properly completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Construction Project Manager. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for 30 days or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted.
