A Staff Pharmacist is an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug therapy monitoring, distribution, drug information, and precepting pharmacy students and residents, conducting clinical research, participating in Department and Hospital Committees, task forces and work groups and fostering excellent interdepartmental relationships. #CA-DS Apply By Date 8/30 /2026 at 11:59pm PST Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position . California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) or equivalent training Experience in ambulatory care pharmacy practice setting Experience precepting and evaluating residents and students Familiarity with medical terminology, lab data and optimal drug therapy Thorough knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations Computer skills that facilitate clinical patient data medication order entry and other basic clinical software programs Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and educate patients about their medication therapy Demonstrated ability to obtain needed information from a patient or patient's chart to create medication management plans Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information with exceptional interpersonal skills to healthcare providers Demonstrated ability to triage Knowledge of current ambulatory care guidelines (i.e. ACC/AHA, JNC, ADA, GINA, GOLD) Demonstrated ability to identify medication-related problems in patients, communicate them to a patient's physician and offer recommendations Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached Preferred Qualifications Pharmacist Board Certification [e.g., Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP), or Certified Specialty Pharmacist (CSP)] Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) Pharmacy Practice Residency Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) Pharmacy Practice or Specialty Residency Two (2) years of medication therapy management experience Three (3) years of UCDH retail pharmacy experience Ability to navigate third party reimbursement programs Key Responsibilities 60% - Refill Clinic Activities 25% - Direct Patient Care Activities 10% - Quality Assurance and Reporting 5% - Fosters Academic Excellence/Demonstrates Professionalism Department Overview UC Davis Health is a nationally recognized leader in the provision of high-quality, patient-centered care, based in the Greater Sacramento area of Northern California. The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs. The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
