MUSC Health Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Hospital Medicine

MUSC Health is seeking a dedicated Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Hospital Medicine team at Allendale County Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-impact, patient-centered care in a rural Critical Access Hospital while practicing at the top of your license across inpatient and emergency settings. Join a mission-driven organization where providers play a vital role in improving access to care and health outcomes for an underserved community.

About Allendale Community Hospital:

Allendale County Hospital is a county-owned Critical Access Hospital that serves as the primary healthcare provider for residents of Allendale County and surrounding rural communities. Established in 1950, the hospital was built with a mission to improve access to care in an underserved region and continues to operate as a not-for-profit facility governed by a local board.

The hospital is licensed for 25 inpatient beds and provides a broad range of services despite its smaller size, including 24/7 emergency care, inpatient and outpatient treatment, and general medical and surgical services. Because of its Critical Access Hospital designation, it plays a vital role in maintaining healthcare access in rural South Carolina, ensuring patients can receive care close to home without traveling long distances.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Board certified (AANP, ANCC, NCCPA)
  • Active or eligible South Carolina license
  • Experience in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or rural health preferred
  • Strong clinical decision-making and adaptability

Position Highlights:

  • Manage acute and chronic conditions for hospitalized patients in a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital
  • Perform comprehensive history, physical exams, and diagnostic interpretation
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
  • Availability of a tele-hospitalist physician to support patient care through clinical supervision, consultation, and assistance as needed.
  • Provide cross-coverage support for the Emergency Department as needed
  • Participate in swing bed and transitional care management
  • Coordinate discharges, follow-up care, and patient education
  • Engage in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Benefits & Resources for Providers:

  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Employer-funded retirement plans
  • Paid occurrence malpractice coverage
  • Paid parental leave
  • Epic EHR with provider-centered optimization and robust user support
  • AI-enabled documentation and workflow tools integrated into Epic to reduce administrative burden and support clinical decision-making at the point of care
