Job Title: Machinist B Job Code: 37327 Job Location: Huntsville, AL (AMF South Location) Job Schedule: 3/12 (Weekend A): Employees work 12 hours a day, 3 days a week (Friday - Sunday from 6:00AM - 6:30PM) Job Description: Position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions. Essential Functions: * This position interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required and method of setup and arrangement; work with a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments; make shop computations; and fit and put together precision parts and determine material, parts and equipment required. * Fabricates piece parts per work instructions, drawings and specifications through the use of required machine tools. * Inspects piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements. * Sets up and operates machine tools. Performs other related duties as assigned. * Ability to run machine shop equipment such as lathes, CNC, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts to exacting tolerances and dimensions. * Uses, adjusts, cleans and stores the tools, machinery and equipment used. * Keeps records and reports of the use of equipment. * Other duties as assigned. * Ability to obtain a US security clearance. Qualifications: * Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills: * A trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification is strongly desired. * Manual machining experience is preferred. * Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes. * Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans and/or work instructions. * Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment. * Knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations. * Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals and properties.
