The selected leader will have the chance to establish one of the premier thoracic oncology programs in the country by merging exceptional clinical services with pioneering laboratory and translational research. The ideal candidate will spearhead a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary initiative that unites specialists in medical oncology, thoracic surgery, pulmonology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, immunology, genomics, aging biology, artificial intelligence, and computational biology to expedite scientific advancements into enhanced patient care.

Key institutional goals include promoting lung cancer immunoprevention , cancer interception , early detection , neoadjuvant and perioperative clinical trials , and precision immunotherapy , all supported by the organization’s renowned expertise in pulmonology, precision immunology, cancer biology, biomarker discovery, and translational clinical research.

Program Leadership
  • Formulate and implement an ambitious strategic vision for the Center for Thoracic Medical Oncology, in alignment with the Tisch Cancer Center's mission.

  • Establish and oversee a top-tier multidisciplinary thoracic oncology program that encompasses prevention, early detection, clinical care, translational research, and therapeutic innovation.

  • Attract, mentor, and retain exceptional physician-scientists, clinical researchers, and faculty members.

  • Encourage collaboration among medical oncology, thoracic surgery, radiation oncology, pulmonology, pathology, radiology, immunology, computational biology, and fundamental science.

  • Act as a representative for the program in institutional planning and national scientific endeavors.

Clinical Care
  • Maintain an active clinical practice in thoracic medical oncology.

  • Guarantee the provision of exceptional, evidence-based, patient-centered care throughout the continuum from lung cancer screening and early-stage disease to advanced thoracic malignancies.

  • Enhance multidisciplinary clinics, tumor boards, and integrated care pathways across the health system.

Research and Translational Science
  • Lead or engage in groundbreaking translational and clinical research in thoracic oncology.

  • Establish research initiatives focused on lung cancer biology, immunoprevention, cancer interception, early detection, precision immunotherapy, neoadjuvant therapeutic strategies, biomarker discovery, and the effects of aging on cancer progression and treatment response.

  • Promote close collaboration between laboratory scientists and clinical researchers to facilitate the application of scientific findings in clinical settings.

  • Broaden a comprehensive portfolio of investigator-initiated, cooperative group, and industry-sponsored clinical trials.

  • Utilize the organization’s strengths in precision immunology, genomics, single-cell and spatial technologies, AI, and longitudinal immune profiling to create next-generation biomarker-driven studies.

  • Seek external funding from NIH, foundations, and industry partners to support innovative research initiatives.

Clinical Trials

* Oversee the creation of innovative early-phase and late-phase clinical trials with a focus on:

  • Neoadjuvant and perioperative therapies;
  • Immunoprevention and cancer interception;
  • Biomarker-driven precision medicine;
  • Novel immunotherapies and targeted treatments.
Education and Mentorship
  • Guide junior faculty, fellows, residents, and students pursuing careers in thoracic oncology and translational cancer research.

  • Contribute to educational initiatives that nurture the next generation of physician-scientists.

Required Qualifications
  • MD or MD/PhD with board certification in Medical Oncology or a related clinical specialty.

  • Proven excellence in thoracic oncology research, encompassing clinical, translational, or laboratory-based studies.

  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications and scholarly accomplishments.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in directing a clinical, translational, or research program.

  • Commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration and team-based science.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Fellowship training in Medical Oncology/Hematology -Oncology.

  • Experience in leading investigator-initiated and multicenter clinical trials.

  • History of sustained external funding from NIH, foundations, or industry.

  • Expertise in translational immuno-oncology, cancer prevention, early detection, or biomarker development.

  • Established national or international reputation in thoracic oncology.

We provide outstanding infrastructure for translational research and clinical investigation, promoting collaboration across oncology, immunology, genomics, imaging, computational biology, and precision medicine. The leader will have the opportunity to work closely with globally recognized programs, including those focused on precision immunology, human immune monitoring, and expanding initiatives in cancer immunotherapy, immunoprevention, and clinical trial innovation.

Compensation ranges from $375,000 to $475,000 (excluding bonuses, incentive compensation, or benefits).
