As the Medical Director / Managing Veterinarian, you will have the freedom to build an engaging culture, grow the team of doctors, and drive high medical standards. While you and the Hospital Manager will have the autonomy to make these types of decisions for the practice, you have the support of an established team and the NVA Community.

Centralia Animal Hospital is in Chester, Virginia, just south of Richmond. We are a full-service small animal hospital with an emphasis on preventative and wellness care. We also provide urgent care services to our community as well as an online pharmacy, wellness plans, and more. Each day we strive to deliver outstanding patient care by providing the highest standard of veterinary medicine, employing dedicated staff, and offering exceptional client service!

Dr. Shirley Bunting first opened our doors in 1994 with the "Family Pet Practice" approach, and we have kept it that way since. Our doctors do not practice medicine in their "own lanes", but instead value teamwork and often collaborate and share knowledge with each other throughout the day.

• Freestanding building built in 2005, with a large open treatment room, surgery suite, six exam rooms, separate dog and cat wards.
• Full in-house laboratory using idexx-Catalyst One, Catalyst DX, Procyte (including differentials) Idexx Sedivue, various ELISA tests, and fecals are done in-house. We have daily pickup from our external lab and next-day test results on all common tests.
• Digital radiology
• Ultrasound
• Therapy Laser which is also included in all wellness plan spays and neuters to assist with post op pain control.
• Full in-house pharmacy along with an online pharmacy.
• IM3 Dental machine with dental radiographs performed on every dentistry.
• Survivet full monitoring system along with Doppler.

In Chesterfield County there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, parks, lakes and more. The region offers great outdoor activities. The James River has something for everyone from swimming and fishing to kayaking and boating. We are less than 2 hours away from the beautiful Virginia shoreline, Afton Mountain along with the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway and Washington DC.

Just 6.6 miles from our hospital, Sir Thomas Dale established Henricus Park in September of 1611, the colonies second settlement. Countless Civil War battles were fought in Chester, and all over the region. We are located one hour away from Monticello in Charlottesville, the historic home designed and built by Thomas Jefferson.

Medical Director Leadership Qualities, Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Advancing Medical Care

• Oversee surgical and medical cases for all doctors, ensuring positive outcomes, accurate estimates, and client communication and education.
• Answer client questions and concerns regarding medical and surgical procedures
• Provide oversight and direction of medical standards, quality of care and inventory.
• Minimize waste and controls costs relating to medical supplies, surgical instruments, and drug inventories.

Leading Staff and Practice

• Participate in the recruiting and interviewing process for Doctors and, when appropriate, general staff members
• Be passionate about Mentoring other Associates.
• Monitor Doctor performance and production
• Ensure all medical staff receive applicable training, including the mentoring of new graduates
• Support the Hospital Manager with staff training programs and tracking CE and DVM licensure

In Partnership with Hospital Leadership Team

• Drive revenue and contribute to hospital growth, including managing hospital expenses
• Assist in the preparation of an annual planning strategy, operating budget, and capital budget
• Monitor key financial reports
• Drive patient visits and encourage community involvement
• Embrace change and support interests within the hospital
• Monitor client service, marketing, and growth initiatives
