Job Description Summary

The Admissions Counselor will join a dynamic undergraduate admissions team that represents Seattle University's Jesuit academic and co-curricular opportunities to prospective students, their families and supporters, and the high school college counselor community. This position works primarily with first-time-in-college (FTIC) students applying directly from high school. However, the counseling team supports all prospective students, including First-Year, Transfer, Arts, Pre-College, and Post-Baccalaureate, by providing advising and support through email and phone communication, appointments, events on and off campus, and other outreach programs as needed.

Position Description:

Recruitment Management - 45%

• Provide information about the University's academic opportunities to prospective students, families, counselors, advisors, and other stakeholders through presentations, emails, calls, and one-on-one conversation.
• Plan, develop, and implement on and off campus recruitment travel and activities primarily in assigned geographic regions.
• Meet with prospective students through various channels, including high school visits, campus interviews, information sessions, and workshops.
• Act as a connection point between students and other campus stakeholders (i.e. faculty, financial aid, registrar, etc.) to meet undergraduate enrollment goals.
• Engage in efforts to make higher education more accessible, equitable, and inclusive; participate in working groups to embed these efforts in job responsibilities.
• Approximately 10 to 12 weeks of in state and out of state travel.

Application Review and Recommendations - 25%

• Review, evaluate, and provide initial undergraduate admission recommendations based on university criteria and artistic standards (where necessary)
• Assist students in submitting materials to complete their applications and advise through questions about best-fit majors, changing majors, and updating start terms.

Event Attendance - 15%

• Support and actively participate in programs and events engaging prospective First Year, Transfer, Post Baccalaureate, and Pre College students, their families, community organizations, college counselors, and advisors.
• Attend major admission events such as preview days and admitted student days.
• Evening and weekend work required, especially in fall and spring.

Other Duties - 15%

• Manage and work on assigned project areas throughout the year.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's Degree (4-year) in a relevant field.

Experience

Minimum of 1 year of professional work experience, or a combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess well-developed organizational skills.
• Confidence in public speaking to both large and small groups.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and supporting diverse student populations.
• Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary.
• Willingness to learn quickly, ask questions, and accept constructive feedback.
• Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Speaks, writes, and reads one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Mandarin, Tagalog, Amharic, or Tigrinya, and is interested in utilizing language skills to serve prospective students and families in the college search process.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and federal and state privacy laws.
• Experience using an ERP and CRM, specifically Workday and Technolutions Slate CRM.
• Knowledge of financial aid trends and issues.
• Experience working with diverse young adult and youth populations.

Physical Demands

This position performs work in an office environment.

Positions designated as hybrid eligible may offer the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule after successful completion of an introductory period of 3–6 months. In these cases, the role typically begins fully on campus to support onboarding and training, with the potential to transition to a hybrid arrangement thereafter.

Positions designated as on-site are not eligible for hybrid work and are expected to remain fully on campus.
