Job Type: Part‑time GENERAL SUMMARY The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for using sonographic equipment to record images of patients for diagnostic purposes. Performs sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Records test results, inspects and maintains equipment, and orders supplies when needed. RESPONSIBILITIES Select and examine images, search for differences between healthy and pathological areas, and determine if the scope of the exam should be extended based on preliminary findings. Present the sonograms and preliminary findings to physicians. Complete the appropriate documentation and maintain patients’ medical records. Assist physicians and healthcare teams during invasive procedures. Maintain and clean the sonographic equipment. Perform medical procedures, such as administering oxygen, taking vital signs, and giving emergency treatments. Assist in the care and handling of equipment, including maintaining and cleaning the sonographic equipment. Insert patient information and personal data into the computer to maintain examination records. Assess the patient’s physical, psychological and educational needs to obtain appropriate history prior to each exam. Explain the process to the patient, instruct, and assist patient in positioning for the exam. Monitor images for quality and adjust as needed. Record optimal anatomical images that are transferred to the PACS system, disc, strip printout or film to obtain a permanent record. Provide relevant technical information about the patient and exam to facilitate interpretation of the study by the radiologist. Perform other position‑related duties as assigned. CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS Registration with one of the two recognized medical diagnostic sonography organizations preferred: the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography or the American Registry of Radiological Technologists. BLS certification required; ACLS preferred. Current R.D.M.S. certification. KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES Knowledge of database management. Knowledge and ability to navigate EMR systems. Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare coding systems, and clinic functions. Knowledge of governmental regulations and compliance requirements. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and other third‑party payer guidelines. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from physicians, managers, patients, family members, and the general public. Ability to explain technical terms in a clear and understandable way. Ability to operate imaging technology and machinery. Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality. Complies with all health and safety policies of the organization. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Associate degree in Ultrasound Technology required. Graduate of an accredited ultrasound technician program required. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Previous ultrasound technologist experience strongly preferred – six months to one year related experience preferred. New graduates will be considered.
