About the Role:

Aquila Technology is seeking a Software Engineer to join its team in support of one of the nation's premier defense research organizations. The Software Engineer will work with a team focused on development of  human-centered technologies to overcome operational challenges and to enhance human capability in domains of interest to national security. Our research programs focus on innovative and objective solutions in the areas of integrated wearable systems, human-machine teaming, enhanced communications, neurocognitive analytics, and medical technologies. The team is highly interdisciplinary and includes scientific experts in physiology, cognitive science, neuroscience, psychology, biomechanics, computer science, engineering, and physics. Our core technical competencies include system-level modeling and gap analysis, advanced sensing and signal processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, computational modeling, hardware and software prototyping, model-based systems engineering, and human data collection in laboratory and field environments. The team is seeking a versatile Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and test novel medical technologies for national security applications. The ideal candidate has a broad software engineering background and works effectively in small, multidisciplinary teams to translate new ideas into functional prototypes.

• 2 years Mobile user interface design principles
• 2 years Experience building on-device native binaries for ML/LLM deployments
• 3 years Implementing machine learning models and knowledge of ML training
• 5 years On-device ML/LLM deployment
• 2 years Microcontroller (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry PI)
• 5 years Windows Applications (C++ app development)
• 2 years Cloud Computing

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Developing AI- and machine-learning-enabled applications
• Building custom Android smartphone applications
• Enhancing Windows-based software
• Integrating sensors and prototype hardware

• Successful candidates are comfortable working across the software stack, learning new technologies -quickly, and solving open-ended technical problems in an R&D environment.

All tuition reimbursement requests must be submitted to and approved by the team member's Manager prior to course registration. Reimbursement will be issued upon successful course completion and submission of final grades and proof of payment.

401K with Principal - Eligible to participate day 1 of employment. Company match on employee contributions:

• Eligibility on date of hire
• Employer Match- 100% of first 3% and 50% of next 2%
• Vesting- 100%
• Contribution limit- $24,500
• Catch-up contribution limit- $8,000
• Catch-up contribution limit for ages 60-63 in calendar year- $11,250
• Catchup contributions must be directed to Roth bucket if earned over
$150k in 2025

Cell Phone & Internet Reimbursed up to $150 monthly to cover cell phone, data, and home internet expenses. Aquila Technology will reimburse team members who work from home ONLY for cell phone/mobile device fees for work-related communications and/or operations each month. Employees eligible for this benefit must work remote 2 days a week or more to qualify.

Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) - Team members are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,500 every three (3) years for the purchase of electronic equipment used to access corporate services. To qualify for this benefit, employees must have completed a minimum of six (6) months of employment and must agree to and sign the Device Minimum Configuration Form prior to reimbursement. Electronic devices eligible under the Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) program are limited to cell phones, laptops, and tablets.

Clearance: An interim clearance is sufficient to start.

Work Schedule: This position is HYBRID. The individual will be required to be onsite 3 days a week. Candidates are expected to be local at the time of the start of the assignment. Final scheduled TBD by hiring manager.

Interview Schedule: 1st round interview will be a Zoom with the hiring manager. 2nd round interview will be a Zoom with additional team members as needed.
