We’re expanding our Building Automation team with a Submittals Engineer who will transform project requirements into precise, build-ready documentation while driving technical excellence, schedule discipline, and value for our customers.

A day in the role

Morning — You review contract documents, scope, and budget, then translate them into a controls design strategy that ensures equipment compatibility and meets performance goals. You begin assembling a comprehensive BAS submittal package: detailed riser diagrams, robust network architecture, and physical point‑to‑point wiring schematics spanning HVAC and electrical interfaces. AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio (CDT) are your primary tools.

Midday — You draft or validate Sequences of Operations (SOO), checking that every sequence truly satisfies system requirements. You compile a complete Bill of Material and work with the Sales team to support estimates and bids. Partnering with Project Managers, you surface plan/spec discrepancies early and generate clear RFIs to resolve them.

Afternoon — You advance system design for BAS: perform load calculations, select equipment, and integrate diverse control systems using BACnet MSTP/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, and LonWorks. You coordinate with external customers and vendors to confirm details, help manage timeline and budget, and accurately forecast and track your design labor to stay on target.

Wrap‑up — You maintain clean, version‑controlled documentation for design systems, wiring diagrams, and software configurations. You recommend new products that improve functionality and value, support ongoing service engineering for existing buildings, and—when assigned—build and maintain a library of engineering standards for both Bosch Building Technologies and the broader industry. Other duties as assigned.

Core responsibilities

• Design Building Automation Controls projects to scope and budget while ensuring equipment compatibility.
• Produce complete BAS submittal packages: riser diagrams, network topology, and point‑to‑point wiring for HVAC/electrical systems.
• Create and validate SOOs; confirm written sequences meet system intent.
• Generate full Bills of Material and precise, professional engineered documents.
• Interpret drawings, specs, and estimates to select the most effective equipment and controls approach.
• Develop BAS system designs including load calculations, equipment selection, and multi‑system integration.
• Support Sales during estimation/bid phases with design input.
• Partner with Project Managers to write RFIs and resolve design issues; proactively identify discrepancies.
• Apply advanced protocol integration: BACnet MSTP/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, LonWorks.
• Maintain thorough documentation of designs, wiring, and software configurations.
• Independently execute design responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Forecast and track design labor to meet budget and forecast goals.
• Facilitate with external customers/vendors to ensure accurate and timely engineering.
• Assist in managing project timeline, budget, and coordination.
• Recommend products that improve functionality and value; support service engineering for existing systems.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards libraries (as assigned) for Bosch Building Technologies and the industry.
• Other duties as assigned.

Preferred qualifications

• 2+ years programming with Tridium/Niagara, Spyder tool, EIKON, EC‑gfxProgram, and/or Controller Configuration Tool.
• History of proposing cost‑effective technical solutions.
• Experience building internal standards, libraries, or best practices for system design and engineering.
• Background spanning both initial design and ongoing support/service engineering for installed building systems.

Technical foundation we value

• Strong HVAC domain knowledge: unitary (RTUs, FCUs, VAVs), large air systems (AHUs, DOAS, MUA), hydronics incl. valve sizing, chiller plants (air‑cooled and water‑cooled), cooling towers, and boiler plants with heat exchangers.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio (CDT).
• Ability to execute large projects using standard tools, products, and practices while adapting when needed.
