This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.In this role you will join an Integrated Product Team to develop, qualify, and optimize metallics, sealants, and coating solutions for critical structural applications, performing root‑cause analysis and defining processing specifications. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in material failure analysis, test‑plan generation, and the chemistry‑physics of coatings and metals, and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment.Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production sealants & coatings issues OR metallics issuesGenerates test plans & reportsAnalyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystemsApplies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes OR metallic processing specifications, fabrication and associated assembly processesDevelops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specificationsMaterial analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specificationsPerform drawing reviews to ensure M&P requirements are satisfiedReview and approve subcontractor material processing proceduresTravel to subcontractor locationsBasic Qualifications: This requisition may be filled at a Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer (Level 2) OR Principal Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer (Level 3) level based on the qualifications below.Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer (Level 2)Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 2 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related professional/military experience.Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.Professional experience with metallics, sealants and/or coatings applied to structural componentsProfessional experience with metal or composite fabrication and/or designDemonstrated experience with repair processes for metal or composite materials used in structuresPrincipal Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer (Level 3)Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related professional/military experience.Your ability to obtain and/or transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.Professional experience with metallics, sealants and/or coatings applied to structural componentsProfessional experience with metal or composite fabrication and/or designDemonstrated experience with repair processes for metal or composite materials used in structuresPreferred Qualifications:Final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearanceBachelor’s (or higher) degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline.Experience with aircraft structuresExperience with military specs and standardsExperience interfacing with a military customer#AS-FA3Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
