Staff Mobile Engineer, Tech Lead [Remote]

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Mobile Engineer, Tech Lead based in United States.

This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for shaping the long-term technical direction of a high-scale mobile platform serving more than one million users each week.
You will lead architecture and engineering strategy across iOS and Android through React Native, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
The role combines deep hands-on engineering with cross-functional technical leadership across Engineering, Product, Design, Data, and business teams.
You will help advance AI adoption in mobile development, including agentic coding tools, on-device intelligence, and AI-powered product experiences.
You will establish engineering standards around architecture, testing, observability, CI/CD, release quality, and mobile development practices.
As a technical leader, you will mentor engineers, influence organization-wide decisions, and lead complex initiatives that span multiple teams.

Accountabilities:

• Define and drive the long-term technical vision, architecture, and infrastructure strategy for the mobile platform across iOS and Android using React Native.
• Own the end-to-end technical strategy for the mobile application, covering architecture patterns, platform infrastructure, performance, reliability, and release engineering.
• Evaluate and champion AI-powered capabilities within mobile development, including agentic coding tools, on-device intelligence, and AI-driven personalization.
• Lead complex cross-functional initiatives spanning mobile, backend, product, design, and data teams while maintaining alignment on priorities and execution.
• Establish and promote engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, architecture, and mobile-specific development practices.
• Drive improvements in application performance, reliability, and release quality through CI/CD, crash monitoring, progressive rollouts, and continuous optimization.
• Identify and eliminate platform-level bottlenecks that affect engineering velocity or user experience.
• Partner with Product and Design to translate business objectives into scalable, technically sound mobile solutions and roadmap priorities.
• Mentor engineers across experience levels through code reviews, architectural guidance, hands-on pairing, coaching, and technical thought leadership.
• Promote engineering excellence through technical talks, documentation, best-practice sharing, and collaborative problem solving.
• Influence broader engineering architecture, tooling, and development practices beyond the mobile organization.
• Lead initiatives from concept through production while balancing technical complexity, business priorities, and competing stakeholder needs.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years building and scaling production mobile applications with significant React Native experience.
• Deep, production-proven expertise in React Native, including the New Architecture, Fabric, TurboModules, native module bridging, and cross-platform parity strategies.
• Strong expertise with TypeScript and scalable state management approaches such as Redux, Zustand, Jotai, or equivalent technologies.
• Strong understanding of both iOS native development with Swift or Objective-C and Android development with Kotlin or Java, with the ability to work directly in native code when required.
• Deep experience with mobile architecture patterns such as clean architecture and modular monorepos.
• Expert knowledge of mobile performance optimization, including JavaScript and UI threads, bridge overhead, memory usage, startup time, and rendering performance.
• Strong experience with mobile observability, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and analytics platforms such as Firebase, Datadog, Sentry, or Amplitude.
• Deep knowledge of App Store and Google Play distribution, phased rollouts, feature flags, OTA updates, and mobile CI/CD using tools such as Bitrise, GitHub Actions, or Fastlane.
• Strong testing experience across unit, integration, and end-to-end mobile testing using technologies such as Jest, Detox, or Maestro.
• Proficiency with RESTful and GraphQL APIs and familiarity with cloud infrastructure supporting mobile backends, including AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience using AI for software development and familiarity with AI/ML-powered mobile capabilities such as on-device models, LLM-backed experiences, and recommendation systems.
• Ability to define technical direction, build organizational alignment, and influence architectural decisions beyond the immediate mobile team.
• Strong project leadership skills, with the ability to independently manage complex, multi-team initiatives and competing priorities.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with Product, Design, Data, Engineering, and business stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, raise technical standards, and lead through influence rather than formal authority.
