Clinical Supervisor I/II, Medical Surgical Nursing Position Title: Clinical Supervisor I/II, Medical Surgical Nursing Department: School of Nursing & Health Professions: Dean's Office Posting Number: 201201508P Position Summary The Clinical Supervisor I or II for Medical Surgical (MS) is a part‑time staff position with responsibility for clinical teaching and/or supervision of students in a MS clinical setting. Duties include competency evaluation, planning and assigning clinical duties to students, arranging orientation of students to clinical sites, conducting post‑clinical conferences, providing written clinical evaluations at mid‑term and final periods, grading clinical written assignments, and working with SU faculty and staff to resolve issues with clinical sites and/or students. Responsibilities may also include off‑campus, evening and/or weekend duties, participation in course meetings and required site orientation, and assisting in simulation with clinical groups. Education & Experience B.S. degree in Nursing required for Clinical Supervisor I; M.S. degree or higher in Nursing required for Clinical Supervisor II. Must be a registered nurse licensed in Maryland or another Compact State with two or more years of recent experience in the relevant specialized field of practice. College‑level teaching experience is preferred, but not required. Requires physical abilities consistent with a busy college and/or clinical environment on a campus with buildings, laboratories, or other sites separated by some distance. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and potential exposure to airborne and blood‑borne pathogens. Position requires additional hours for meetings and events, including days, evenings, and weekends outside of the regular clinical hours. Position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time and the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time. Essential Functions Engage in clinical supervision activity totaling no more than the equivalent of seven clinical groups per calendar year. Provide supervision and instruction to students in a clinical and/or skills laboratory setting. Collaborate with the course coordinator and/or instructor to facilitate student learning in the clinical setting based on theoretical concepts taught in the classroom, including planning clinical time and patient assignments to reinforce specific learning objectives. Coach students and/or demonstrate nursing care in a variety of clinical situations, including hospitals, out‑patient clinics, and the home care setting. Evaluate student performance of clinical skills, including the demonstration of the role of caregiver. Evaluate written and oral assignments. Meet with students to discuss their performance of clinical skills and patient care, including performance issues and methods for improvement as needed. Participate in course meetings, required orientation per clinical setting, and student meetings. Submit written reports of progress on each student to the clinical course coordinator and/or instructor as requested. Participate in the Clinical Supervisors’ Development Workshop in each semester in which one or more clinical groups are supervised. Demonstrate collegiality and professional ethics in interactions with faculty, students, administrators, and members of the public. Hiring Salary Range Anticipated $1,144–$5,887 per clinical experience, depending on clinical hours, rank, and level of students.
