The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) is responsible for assisting the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the overall operations and management of medical programs and activities including medical staff management, quality improvement program, quality and peer review activities, Epic electronic health improvements, and DNV processes. This role will provide executive level leadership in advancing Riverside Regional Medical Center's (RRMC) aspirational efforts to eliminate harm, to achieve top decile performance in quality, safety, patient, and patient experience, and provide health equity lens to all operational processes. This role will include elements of direct supervision of the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. This role will work closely and collaboratively with the service line chiefs as assigned, in supervising their clinical work and operational responsibilities through the service lines. This position helps the CMO provide oversight to all medical directors.
What you will do
- Leadership: As part of the Regional Medical Center Leadership team, the ACMO will serve as the voice of the physicians and other providers on the professional staff and create a shared vision and strategy for the practice of medicine at the hospital. Plans for the delivery and quality of care rendered to all patients and their families in accordance with the evidenced based standards and principles of family centered care. Promotes an environment that supports an empowered workforce though role modeling and mentoring key personnel. Strengthens and reinforces a culture of quality, safety and patient experience across RRMC. Leads the development, execution, and monitoring of programs, services, and processes designed to maximize the patient and family experience and the satisfaction of referring physicians. Helps builds and lead a multidisciplinary quality and safety organization that transcends existing units and reinforces a consistent approach to quality, safety and overall patient/family experience. Provides ongoing mentoring and coaching to continue the environment of open communications, idea exchange and process simplification. Develops and maintains relationships with hospital and community-based professional staff to accomplish operational objectives and proactively seeks physician input on pertinent clinical matters. Assists with the resolution of provider related behavior issues and disputes. Works collaboratively with employees to plan for staff development that assures the knowledge and skill levels are achieved to function competently in assigned duties. Strives to meet/exceed department and hospital goals through inter- and intra-departmental collaboration and active participation on appropriate committees. Implements process improvement initiatives.
- Strategic Planning: Along with the RHS and RMG teams, helps develop strategy through the analysis of market data, customer feedback, and state and national legislation/health care trends to develop a strategic plan that is congruent with the Mission and Vision of RRMC, RHS and RMG. Drives the development and attainment of intra- and interdivisional goal setting that supports the strategic initiatives. Facilities development and implementation of the hospital's mission, vision and strategic plan as it relates to the medical staff. Communicates/educates employees to the strategic plan
- Operations: Helps to design and support an environment that strives to continually improve processes within RRMC and supports the mission and vision of the organization. Creates an environment that fosters innovation and performance, supporting the implementation of programs that continuously advance clinical outcomes and patient experience. Actively implements innovative ideas to redefine, measure and improve quality. Advances as a leader in quality and safety, as evidenced by exceptional patient outcomes and top decile performance rankings. Leads in developing, directing, and coordinating innovative, multidisciplinary quality and outcomes management initiatives across RRMC that incorporate national best practices, drive down variation, decrease costs and create efficiencies. Assists with the oversight of quality data analytics, understands trends and directs the monitoring, reporting and active discussion of clinical outcomes among the clinical areas where quality issues have been identified. Ensures accountability through the implementation of metrics and performance dashboards. Provide leadership in strategic vision, facilitation of goals, project development and implementation to improve clinical information systems to increase the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of patient care and research. Develops, coaches and mentors team members and builds a supportive, positive, learning and healthy work environment for the team based upon trust, collaboration, respect and transparency. Promotes collaborative and mutually respectful relationships between physician and administrative leadership. Represent the organization in necessary regional and national organizations and on boards. Assists in maintaining functional compliance (including DNV) and to other governing bodies. Works collaboratively to support and promote organizational research. Leads in the retention of highly qualified medical staff to promote the hospital's growth objectives and quality goals in collaboration with the executive staff.
- Budget: Assists with the analysis of the overall organizational budgetary allocations based upon historical trends to restricted and unrestricted funds, contractual agreements, forecasted changes in the health care environment, and identified assets and liabilities. Assists clinical departments with the analysis of their respective departmental goals for financial management. Helps provide justifications for major variations. Works collaboratively with Service Line Chiefs and Administrative Director during the budgeting process.
Qualifications Education
- Doctoral Degree MD/DO, Doctoral Degree in medicine (Required)
- Masters Degree, MBA, MHA, MMM, or MPH (Preferred)
Experience
- 7-10 years Clinician with increasing administrative responsibility (Preferred)
Skills and Abilities
- Board Certification in Medical Specialty (MD/DO ABMS, AOBMS)
Licenses and Certifications
- Physician License - Virginia Board of Medicine within 60 Days(Required)
- Valid Drivers License Required
