About Us Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209. Job Summary The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading electrical systems and equipment throughout the university campus. This position ensures that all electrical infrastructure, lighting systems, controls, and related equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. The Electrician supports academic buildings, residence halls, administrative offices, athletic facilities, laboratories, and other campus properties. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and equipment throughout campus facilities.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, motors, generators, transformers, switchgear, and control panels.
- Diagnose electrical malfunctions and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Install and repair interior and exterior lighting, emergency lighting, and lighting control systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Install and maintain conduit, wiring, outlets, switches, breakers, and electrical fixtures.
- Test electrical systems and components using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls involving electrical failures and power outages.
- Assist with campus renovation, construction, and facility improvement projects.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and university safety standards, including OSHA requirements.
- Coordinate work with contractors, vendors, and other Facilities Management personnel as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and materials used.
- Support special campus events by providing electrical setup and technical assistance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- High school diploma, GED or completion of a vocational, technical, or apprenticeship program in electrical work or any combination of training and experience.
- Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent certification, as required by state or local regulations.
- Three (3) years of experience in commercial, industrial, institutional, or campus electrical maintenance.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Able to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Master Electrician license.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS), emergency generators, fire alarm systems, and low-voltage systems.
- Experience with energy management and sustainability initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to safely work with energized and de-energized electrical systems.
- Skill in using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for work order management and recordkeeping.
