Job Summary:

As a Maintenance Assistant, you will be responsible for evaluating, repairing, and maintaining plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, as well as performing maintenance and repairs on all aspects of the facility building as directed. You will also receive and respond to resident and family reports of mechanical or maintenance issues, communicate with supervisors about any work that requires outside expert assistance, and maintain fire, carbon monoxide, smoke, and other safety systems.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate, repair, and maintain plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems

• Perform maintenance and repairs on all aspects of the facility building as directed

• Receive and respond to resident and family reports of mechanical or maintenance issues

• Communicate with supervisor about any work that requires outside expert assistance

• Maintain fire, carbon monoxide, smoke, and other safety systems

• Fix potential safety hazards in a timely manner

• Provide support to Housekeeping and Laundry Departments as directed

• Communicate and interact effectively with residents, visitors, families, staff, and supervisors

• Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed

• Report all resident, staff, or other concerns to the appropriate department head

• Report all incidents, accidents, unsafe situations, and concerns immediately

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED

• 4 or more years' experience with general building maintenance

• Ability to use tools and equipment necessary to complete projects

• Knowledge of plumbing, electrical wiring, HVAC, and carpentry

• Previous experience as an electrician, plumber, carpenter, or handyman preferred

Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

• This position generally requires physical activity

• May at times require walking to various locations within a facility

• May require some use of machinery consistent with the job duties

• Regularly required to talk and hear

• Ability to walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and lift as necessary
