Assistant Volleyball Coach

Qualifications: Knowledge of the assigned sport. Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administrator may deem appropriate.

Reports To: Athletic Director/Principal

Job Goal: To organize, coordinate and promote a comprehensive athletics program in the assigned sport, this is designed to meet the needs and interests of the school community. To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academics achievement. To demonstrate a high degree of ethics, professionalism, human relations, and be a positive role model for all students.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Comply with the rules and regulations of Spartanburg School District Seven, South Carolina High School League, the AAAA Conference and Region III AAAA.
2. Prepare and submit an annual budget to the Director of Athletics and follow the procurement policies and school policies involving financial transactions. Prepare reports, inventory and recommendations for equipment.
3. Communicate to all participants the policies of the team, local school, and School Board relating to school sponsored activities.
4. Submit forms as required by the South Carolina High School League, the School Board, and local school; i.e., eligibility rosters, players' addresses, etc.
5. Be responsible for the assigned athletic program; establish procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
6. Plan, organize, and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning in the assigned sport.
7. Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship; compile and maintain accurate individual and team performance records; participate in the awards programs(s) according to school procedure.
8. Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program; provide for the safety of participants by inspecting facilities and equipment and being aware of environmental conditions.
9. Issue, collect, inventory, and store equipment consistent with department guidelines.
10. Instruct participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately; implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times.
11. Inform students of the insurance program available through Spartanburg School District Seven.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Physical Requirements: Requires work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether like or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving assignments and/or directions from supervisor.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of documents. Must be able to speak with poise, voice control and confidence and to articulate information to others.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in oral, written or diagrammatic form; to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information and the ability to comprehend and implement basic machinery functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational and cultural backgrounds.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals, to determine time. Must be able to use practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using automated office equipment and communications machinery.

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items including computer keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency or tight deadline. The worker is subject to tension as a regular, consistent part of the job.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to hear and understand communications through a telephone.
