Security Specialist III (OMH Public Safety Columbia)

Location: SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) – Office of Mental Health (OMH), Public Safety Division, 7901 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203. Responsibilities Assist nursing services with upset patients; assist in locating missing patients; and assist with transporting patients as required. Create the initial report on all incidents, including patient abuse, theft, and contraband. Ensure compliance with all applicable CALEA standards. Ensure that all contractual agreements are met within the responsible area, including completing all supporting documentation. Patrol assigned areas to prevent infractions of rules and regulations and check property using standard operating procedures. Enforce parking rules, issue warnings, summons tickets, and maintain traffic control as needed. Assist law enforcement officers in searching vehicles, employees, and visitors as needed, remaining alert for drugs, alcohol, etc. Respond to fire alarms or other emergency calls; assist in extinguishing fires and manage crowd control if necessary. Qualifications High school diploma. Experience in fire prevention, safety, or security activities. Must be at least 21 years of age. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. Post-Hire Requirements Maintain a high level of communication with districts and facility staff. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work fluctuating hours. Effective communication skills. Have considerable knowledge of state laws, rules, and regulations of the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.
