Role Description This full-time, on-site Funeral Director / Embalmer role is based in Burlington, NC. The position is responsible for meeting with families to plan and coordinate funeral, cremation, and memorial services, including arranging visitations, ceremonies, and burial or cremation logistics. Day-to-day duties include embalming and preparation of decedents, ensuring adherence to safety, legal, and ethical standards, as well as maintaining proper documentation and regulatory compliance. The role involves managing funeral home operations related to each service, coordinating with third-party vendors, and supporting families with clear communication and professional guidance. The Funeral Director / Embalmer also assists with aftercare services, responds to inquiries, and upholds a high standard of customer service and respect for diverse cultural and religious preferences. Qualifications Ability to perform embalming and preparation of decedents in accordance with professional, legal, and health standards. Experience working in funeral homes and familiarity with funeral service procedures, regulations, and best practices. Background in family services, with the capacity to provide compassionate support and guidance to grieving individuals. Strong communication and customer service skills to interact sensitively and clearly with families, colleagues, and partners. Current funeral director and embalmer licensure (or eligibility) in the state of North Carolina. Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to funeral services, cremation, and vital records. Ability to manage multiple services and tasks, including scheduling, documentation, and coordination under time-sensitive conditions. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed to support families and service schedules. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for service-related travel.
