Job Summary As a member of the ERCOT Legal Department’s regulatory team, the attorney will focus on state law regulatory, legislative, and policy issues affecting ERCOT. The role involves reviewing and interpreting ERCOT protocols, operating guides, operating procedures, and relevant documents for internal departments, external parties, and internal stakeholders. The attorney will perform legal research on state or federal law related to ERCOT’s functions, monitor regulatory and legislative developments, and assist in the development of comments and filings for relevant regulatory bodies. Job Duties Review and interpret ERCOT protocols, operating guides, operating procedures and other relevant documents for internal departments and groups and external parties. Perform legal research on issues involving state or federal law relating to ERCOT’s functions. Monitor and track Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Texas Register, Federal Register and relevant legislative matters and all applicable governmental proceedings. Develop comments regarding proposed changes to the ERCOT protocols or in PUCT rule‑making proceedings. Contribute to the writing, editing, and publishing of various reports and filings required by PUCT rules. Prepare pleadings and assist with discovery in contested cases pending before PUCT. Participate in audits and other compliance activities as required by internal controls, ERCOT market rules, or state and federal laws, rules, or standards. Review and investigate background facts and information for lawsuits and ethics‑related matters. Perform research and analysis in connection with alternative dispute resolution (ADR) proceedings initiated by market participants, and prepare position papers for ADRs. Participate in the preparation of agendas and materials for Board of Directors and board committee meetings, including recording minutes of all meetings. Required Experience Regulatory Corporate Counsel Level2 – Minimum 2years of job‑related work experience beyond degree requirements. Sr Regulatory Corporate Counsel – Minimum 5years of job‑related work experience beyond degree requirements; 8+years preferred. Education Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (required). JurisDoctorate from an accredited law school (required). Certification Admitted to practice before the State Bar of Texas (required). Work Location Austin, TX. Employees are required to be on‑site at least 2days per week, with flexible or rotated schedules as determined by management. Remote work is permissible from a Texas residence, and employees may choose to work on‑site more frequently. Salary Expected salary range: $155,000–$213,000.
