Job Description

The Human Resources Director Health & Safety leads the design and execution of comprehensive HR and safety strategies for a multi-site North American manufacturing division. This role creates and implements policies and programs that support talent acquisition and retention, talent management, total rewards, organizational development, regulatory compliance, employee relations, engagement, union avoidance, and health and safety. The director partners closely with leaders across all sites and departments to support business growth, strengthen technical and leadership capabilities, and maintain profitable revenue while fostering a high-performance, safe, and engaging work environment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with organizational leadership to grow diverse leadership, talent, and technical capabilities across the business.

• Lead the coordination and execution of HR programs and processes that drive innovation, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness.

• Implement HR and people-focused programs that improve performance within manufacturing operations.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders throughout the organization on HR, safety, and organizational development matters.

• Negotiate and administer total rewards programs, and drive employer branding initiatives to position the organization as an employer of choice.

• Provide group and one-on-one coaching to support leadership development, business decision-making, HR management, problem solving, and performance management.

• Play a consultative role in employee communication initiatives within business groups, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely messaging.

• Ensure personal and organizational compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.

• Develop, implement, and maintain employment policies, procedures, and reporting, including the creation of relevant HR metrics and analysis.

• Administer compensation programs, including salary planning, bonus programs, and job evaluation processes.

• Work closely with immigration counsel on immigration-related matters and support compliance with immigration requirements.

• Process salaried payroll and serve as backup to the HR Representative for hourly payroll, ensuring accuracy and adherence to payroll laws.

• Lead the effective management, motivation, and training of health and safety programs across the organization.

• Collaborate with internal partners to ensure safety compliance and achievement of safety objectives, including OSHA-related initiatives.

• Partner with recruiters and staffing agencies to attract top talent at optimal cost for both corporate and manufacturing environments.

• Drive performance management processes across the organization from a corporate level, ensuring alignment with business goals.

• Lead and develop HR staff, providing direction, mentorship, and support for their professional growth.

• Support employee relations, onboarding, open enrollment, and employee benefits administration as part of broader HR responsibilities.

• Manage multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment while meeting deadlines and business needs.

• Travel periodically to other locations, with potential for international travel, to support HR and safety initiatives across sites.

Essential Skills

• Bachelors degree in Human Resources or a related field.

• 7 or more years of progressive HR management experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Demonstrated experience implementing new HR policies, procedures, and programs aligned with organizational objectives.

• Experience in employee relations, training, and recruiting in both corporate and manufacturing settings.

• Experience partnering with recruiters and staffing agencies to attract top talent at best cost.

• Previous experience leading HR staff and providing strategic HR leadership.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Prior experience utilizing HRIS and/or payroll systems and a solid understanding of payroll laws.

• Experience driving performance management throughout an organization from a corporate level.

• Knowledge of OSHA requirements and prior experience leading safety initiatives.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels.

• Proven track record of successfully managing shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to travel periodically to other locations, with potential for international travel.

• Strong capabilities in human resources management, employee relations, HR compliance, and employee development.

• Experience with recruiting, onboarding, open enrollment, and employee benefits administration.

• Hands-on experience with payroll processing and payroll software.

• Working knowledge of employment law and compliance requirements.

• Experience in multi-site manufacturing HR operations and union avoidance strategies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Masters degree in Human Resources or a related field is preferred.

• Prior experience leading HR initiatives in a corporate and multi-site setting is highly desirable.

• Strong project management skills, including the ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives.

• Professional HR certifications such as SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, or SHRM-CP are preferred.

• OSHA 30-Hour certification is a plus.

• Experience with PLEX or another ERP system is an advantage.

• Experience as a Human Resources Director or HR Manager in manufacturing or multi-site environments.

• Experience in organizational development, including leadership development and change management.

• Expertise in compensation and benefits, total rewards strategy, and salary and bonus program design.

• Experience with HR systems, HRIS, and data-driven HR reporting and metrics.

• Strong customer service orientation and administrative support skills within an HR context.

• Strategic HR leadership experience, including talent management and organizational development.

• Demonstrated success in talent acquisition and retention in competitive labor markets.

• Experience in safety leadership and integration of safety objectives into HR and operational practices.

• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships across all levels of the organization and at multiple sites.

Work Environment

This role operates within both general office and manufacturing environments, supporting a multi-site North American division. The director regularly interacts with corporate teams and plant personnel and should be comfortable working in proximity to manufacturing operations, including production areas and shop floors. The position involves periodic travel to other locations, with the potential for international travel, to provide on-site HR and safety support and to strengthen relationships across facilities. Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Sparta, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
