Accounting Specialist

Description Responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the accounting function; coordinating work within the unit or department, as well as with other departments and units; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries or requests for information. This position is supervised by the Chief Financial Officer and Controller. Essential Duties Performs a variety of duties to support the accounting function of which the following are illustrative: Reviews various documents, transactions, and worksheets relating to the accounting system; makes required entries. Computes figures and prepare various statements and account summaries. Monitors accounts, checks, entries, and transactions; reports discrepancies. Updates income and expense accounts and determines ending balances; computes daily cash position and reserve requirements. Maintains spreadsheets; assists in compiling data for various financial reports. Completes tax reports and related remittances as directed. Compiles information from various departments and other sources to prepare accounting entries. Performs varied account maintenance such as general ledger work, cash accounts, and reconciliations. Maintains automated accounting systems and uses computer resources to generate periodic reports and statements, including fixed assets and investments tracking. Assists in the preparation of financial statements and reports required by the Bank, its external auditors, internal auditors, and other regulatory authorities. Processes accounts payable transactions. Preparation of regulatory reports, as an example Bank Call Reports. Has authority to ensure adequate funding requests for wires. Prepares other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification. Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information. Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate bank personnel. Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of sexual harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness. Maintain compliance with all regulations and bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements. Regular and predictable attendance is expected and is an essential function of the job. Skill(s): Moderate reading, writing, and grammar skills; proficient mathematics skills; proficient PC skills; general knowledge of accounting principles and procedures; moderate interpersonal relations and communicative skills; visual and auditory skills.
