Registered Nurse RN Emergency Dept

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Registered Nurse in the ED, you will assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care of patients in accordance with organization policies and standards of professional nursing practice. You will be accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered under your direction, using judgment and specialized knowledge to assess data and plan appropriate care for patients of all ages.

CORE FUNCTIONS

Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Review patient history and physical with patient/family and ensure completion within appropriate timeframe. Review diagnostics and laboratory data and report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers. Formulate a plan of care, including the discharge plan, based on assessment data and input from patient, family, and health team. Goals for the patient are realistic, measurable, and developed with patient/family. Consider physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age‑specific, and educational needs. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and revise the plan as patient status changes. Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health‑care team. Provide care based on physician orders and nursing plan, in compliance with policies, standards of care, and regulatory requirements. Delegate appropriately and supervise other licensed nurses and personnel. Communicate patient status to other caregivers accurately and completely. Evaluate the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching, and revise the plan of care as needed. Evaluate patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes collaboratively with the health‑care team. Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely, and in accordance with policy, reflecting objective/subjective data, nursing interventions, and patient response. Record physician orders accurately and timely. Provide care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors. Promote and support growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate. Contribute to society through activities that support excellent patient outcomes by providing timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care, and actively participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes. Such activities may include participation in professional organizations. In some roles, supervise staff and flow of the department. Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary or interim RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state of practice. BLS certification is required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice. Experience in the clinical area for which the candidate is applying is desired. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work, as demonstrated through annual validations. For Banner Registry and Travel acute‑care positions, a minimum of one year experience in an acute‑care hospital setting is required. Experience must include working in an acute‑care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
