JOB DESCRIPTION - ULTRASOUND TECH (CSU) Job Summary: The Ultrasound Technician, under direct supervision, utilizes sound waves to generate an image used for the assessment and diagnosis of medical conditions. The sonographer uses special equipment to direct non-ionizing, high frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body. Sonographers operate equipment which collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis. Qualifications: Education: College education culminating in an associates or bachelors degree. Eligible to take Registry Exam (ARDMS) Experience: One year full time experience as an Ultrasound Technician Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography, Current BLS Certification Duties and Responsibilities The Ultrasound Technician is expected to practice safe procedures under the supervision of the Radiology supervisor or the Radiologist. Specific duties may include but are not limited to: Accurately interpret a physician's instructions Explain technical procedure and results to patients Ability to perform mathematical and scientific calculations in the analysis for diagnosis Complete patient education with patient/family regarding the exam Produce sonographic images as ordered Complete documentation as ordered Cleans and disinfects patient rooms Follow infection control and safety guidelines Essential Functions: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Participates in continuing education and learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for continued competence Ability to work as a team member Skilled in the operation of ultrasound equipment Attention to detail Basic understanding of computer technology Perform all duties using proper body mechanics. Frequently move/lift between 50-100 pounds, depending on assignment requirements Stand for long periods with frequent squatting, twisting, bending, kneeling and reaching to prepare equipment, materials or objects in order to provide patient care or maintain the patient environment Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination Ability to work in a stressful environment Ability to follow directions/instructions from his/her supervisor. Consistent attendance is required to assure that the client facilities' needs and patient needs are met. To comply with all client facilities' policies, procedures and practices Working Conditions: The Ultrasound Technician must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts.
