POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the general supervision of the Director of Development Services, the Permit Technician provides information to the public on City of Hutto building codes, ordinances and departmental procedures. Processes and issues permits and verifies applicable contractor licenses and enters appropriate information in the City of Hutto database. Conducts oversight of certification process to ensure contractor is authorized to do business in the City of Hutto which may include the determination of type of license required and processing required information.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Provides information on permitting procedures and assists customers with the completion of required forms and explains their purpose.
• Enters data in the GovWell system and performs accurate filing of material.
• Establishes and maintains all divisional records.
• Prepares monthly reports providing permits issued.
• Processes construction permits including the completion of all tasks on checklist, fee assessment, issuance of permits, routing of documents and payment to finance and forwarding information to appropriate agencies.
• Verifies the completion of contractor's submittal of site plans and/or construction documents based on departmental policies and minimum information requirements for plan submittal.
• Assists walk-in customers and serves as first contact to the public for the Development Services Department.
• Collects all development related fees, prepares deposits and enters into financial software.
• Ensures release of electric and water meters once fees have been paid and the required inspections have concluded.
• Monitors permits for completion and notifies applicant of expired permits.
  Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES & EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Knowledge of permitting procedures
• Skilled in software used to issue permits
• Skilled in preparing reports
• Skilled in communicating, both verbally and in writing
• Ability to tactfully handle customer inquiries

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is primarily sedentary, requiring an individual to sit at a desk for long periods of time, working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs.
