Purpose:

The Unit Coordinator/Certified Medication Aide provides operational, administrative and clinical support functions within the Crisis Stabilization Unit (RSI/CIC). This role seves as a point of coordination to support efficient triage, admissions, documentation accuracy, and communication across clinical staff, nursing, and community partners and ensure that essential processes are completed timely and accurately to support safe, effective and coordinated care for individuals experiencing behavioral health problems.

Administers medications and treatments and maintains related medical records.

Accountabilities:

• Serves as a point of coordination for the client intake, triage preparation, and admissions workflow within RSI/CIC
• Opens client charts and verifies insurance eligibility, including KMap verification.
• Conducts daily chart audits to ensure proper assignment and updated treatment plans.
• Assists with staff EMR troubleshooting.
• Prepares admission poackes including paperwork, vitals, labs and property documentation.
• Supports triage process and notiies appropriate staff of incoming clients
• Maintains and scans documentation including discharge and triage forms
• Acts as liaison with interna/external partners (Mobile Crisis, 988, WBHN/JOCO Treatment Teams and hospitals)
• Document calls, referrals and coordination efforts
• Assist with discharge coordination
• Maintains forms, and resource.
• Attends daily IDT meetings
• Administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Presents medication to client and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures.
• Takes vital signs or observes client to detect response to specified types of medications and prepares report or notifies designated personnel of unexpected reactions.
• Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered.
• Completes progress notes on clients as needed.
• Records all documentation, as assigned, to include entry of information into computer system and/or paper charting.
• Assists with and conducts selected activity groups, as assigned and qualified to conduct; documents activities accordingly.
• Assists in admissions and discharges of clients, as assigned, to include entry of information into computer system. May be asked to assist with assessments, as assigned.
• Helps with coordination of medical clearance transport
• Supervises clients in special cares areas, as assigned. Advises supervisor and/or nursing staff immediately of any care or safety issues.
• Assists nursing staff in responding to emergency situations.
• Works with supervisor and care team to ensure all shift duties are completed and any training needs are addressed.
• Participates in client treatment planning and implementation of unit therapeutic programming -- under the direction of nursing and professional care team.
• Maintains a cheerful and pleasant manner with all staff, consumers, and clients at this facility.
• Maintains needed training to meet job expectations, compliance and position competency.
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education : High School diploma or GED equivalent. Certified as a medication aide per state regulations. Current, active certification on the Kansas Nurse Aide Registry. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. This certification must be current for continued employment.

Experience : Two years of direct care mental health experience.

Skills & Abilities : Basic knowledge of human behavior or general mental health concepts, and independent living skills (e.g. personal grooming, basic nutrition and general health needs.) Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft programs required. Demonstrated satisfactory prior work history and records, including dependability in attendance and punctuality. Ability to follow and complete directions and assignments. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments. Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers and clients, etc. Effective time management and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to recognize problems and demonstrated good judgment and common sense in problem-solving. Ability to perform considerable/repetitive and routine physical activities of sitting, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending and gripping – to assist with client care. Physical strength necessary to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques with clients. Hearing and vision abilities within normal range. Emotional and physical capacity to control and manage self, if clients act out or behave in a verbal or physical manner.

Work Conditions and Considerations:

Work in an often stressful environment, including availability to respond to crisis situations at all times (nights, weekends, holidays, etc.). Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and proof of active automobile insurance due to personal vehicle use for business. Hours may vary, due to business need and/or weather condition considerations. Ability to effectively and safely use all devices and equipment required to fulfill the essential functions of this position. Ability to pass all required trainings to perform the essential functions of this position.

This position requires the employee to wear clothing that allows full range of motion and does not restrict mobility. Slip-resistant, closed-toe footwear must be worn at all times.

Physical Requirements

• Full mobility of all major joints, including knees, hips, shoulders, wrists, and elbows
• Ability to transition quickly from sitting or lying on the back to a standing position
• Ability to maintain balance while moving in multiple directions and transitioning between standing, sitting, and prone positions
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently and assist with lifting/moving 100 lbs or more as part of a team
• Ability to perform squatting movements involving bending at the hips and knees
• Ability to kneel on one or both knees
