Job Description:\n\nEXPERIENCED FLATBED TOW TRUCK & RECOVERY OPERATOR MrKitt’s Service Center & Towing MrKitt’s Service Center & Towing is seeking a highly experienced, dependable, safety-focused Flatbed Tow Truck & Recovery Operator to join our professional towing team. This Is an Experienced Operator Position. This is not an entry-level towing position. Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of verifiable professional towing and recovery experience and must be fully capable of operating a flatbed/rollback tow truck safely, efficiently, professionally, and independently. We are not looking for someone who simply knows how to drive a tow truck. We are looking for an experienced towing professional who understands vehicle loading, recovery, securement, accident scenes, winching, double-hook operations, equipment limitations, roadside safety, customer service, and proper communication with dispatch. The successful candidate should be able to receive an assignment, assess the situation, identify hazards, determine the proper towing or recovery method, safely complete the job, properly document the assignment, and communicate with dispatch with minimal supervision. At the same time, teamwork is mandatory. Professional towing and recovery require communication, cooperation, accountability, sound judgment, and a willingness to assist other operators when necessary. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the following requirements:Minimum 3 years of verifiable professional towing and recovery experience.Extensive flatbed/rollback experience required.Double-hook experience required.Accident recovery experience required.Rollover recovery experience required.Strong winching and recovery knowledge.Strong understanding of vehicle stabilization.Strong understanding of vehicle securement and load distribution.Ability to safely load, transport, secure, and unload a wide variety of vehicles.Ability to assess damaged, disabled, lowered, specialty, AWD, EV, and difficult-to-load vehicles.Understanding of recovery positioning, recovery angles, equipment capacities, and working-load limits.Ability to recognize when a recovery requires additional equipment, another operator, or a heavier recovery unit.Strong knowledge of applicable DOT regulations and towing safety requirements.Valid driver’s license.Clean and acceptable driving record.Current DOT Medical Card.Ability to successfully pass required background screening.Strong communication and customer-service skills.Dependable, punctual, responsible, and professional.Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.Ability to follow company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and management direction.Ability to work outdoors in traffic, roadside, accident-scene, nighttime, and varying weather conditions.Team-player mentality required. FLATBED / ROLLBACK OPERATIONS The operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating company flatbed/rollback towing equipment. Responsibilities include:Properly positioning the truck for safe loading and unloading.Safely operating the rollback bed, winch, hydraulic controls, and related equipment.Evaluating vehicle condition and location before beginning the loading process.Determining the safest and most appropriate loading procedure.Properly loading and positioning vehicles on the flatbed.Maintaining proper vehicle placement and weight distribution.Selecting proper attachment and securement points.Properly using straps, chains, wheel restraints, bridles, safety equipment, and other approved towing equipment.Verifying all securement before moving the truck.Rechecking securement when necessary during transport.Safely unloading vehicles at their destination.Taking additional precautions with damaged, lowered, disabled, specialty, luxury, AWD, EV, or otherwise difficult-to-load vehicles.Protecting customer vehicles from preventable damage throughout the towing process. Every vehicle must be properly secured before the truck moves. DOUBLE-HOOK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Candidates must have actual experience performing double-hook towing assignments safely and efficiently. The operator must understand the additional responsibilities involved when transporting multiple vehicles, including:Equipment capacity.Vehicle weight.Weight distribution.Securement requirements.Clearance.Turning characteristics.Braking distance.Road conditions.Truck handling.Applicable towing and DOT requirements. The operator is expected to:Determine whether the assigned truck and equipment are appropriate for the intended double-hook operation.Properly position both vehicles.Properly secure each vehicle independently.Verify appropriate vehicle and equipment clearances.Understand how the additional vehicle affects truck handling, turning, stopping distance, and overall operation.Inspect all connections and securement before moving.Recheck securement as necessary during transport.Operate conservatively while transporting multiple vehicles.Never exceed the safe operating limits of the truck, towing equipment, securement equipment, or applicable regulations. Efficiency matters. Safety and proper securement matter more. ACCIDENT & VEHICLE RECOVERY This position requires hands-on experience responding to vehicle accidents and recovery situations. Operators must be capable of:Responding professionally to accident and recovery calls.Assessing the entire scene before beginning recovery operations.Identifying traffic, vehicle, environmental, equipment, and personnel hazards.Establishing a safe working area when conditions allow.Determining the appropriate recovery method.Properly positioning the tow truck and recovery equipment.Stabilizing vehicles when necessary.Safely winching damaged or disabled vehicles.Recovering vehicles from difficult or abnormal positions.Performing rollover recovery when appropriate for the operator’s training and equipment.Minimizing additional damage during the recovery process.Preparing recovered vehicles for safe transportation.Properly securing accident-damaged vehicles.Coordinating with law enforcement, fire departments, emergency personnel, dispatch, and other towing operators.Recognizing when additional personnel or equipment are necessary Operators are expected to use sound judgment. Never attempt a recovery that exceeds your training, experience, equipment capacity, or the safe working limits of the assigned truck. SAFETY, DOT COMPLIANCE & VEHICLE SECUREMENT At MrKitt’s Service Center & Towing, safety and proper vehicle securement are non-negotiable. Operators must follow all applicable:DOT requirements.Traffic laws.Company safety policies.Vehicle securement procedures.Equipment operating requirements.Roadside safety procedures. Drivers are responsible for completing appropriate pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Inspections must include, as applicable:Flatbed/rollback components.Hydraulic system.Winch.Cable or synthetic rope.Chains.Straps.Hooks.Attachment points.Wheel restraints.Safety chains.Tow lights.Truck lighting.Tires.Brakes.Recovery equipment.Personal safety equipment. Damaged, defective, missing, or unsafe equipment must be reported immediately. The operator is responsible for confirming that the truck and towing equipment are safe to operate before beginning service. Speed never takes priority over safety. CUSTOMER SERVICE & PROFESSIONALISM Our operators represent MrKitt’s Service Center & Towing every time they arrive on a scene. Customers may be dealing with a breakdown, accident, disabled vehicle, stolen vehicle recovery, or another stressful situation. Operators must remain:Professional.Respectful.Calm.Patient.Helpful.Customer-service-focused.Solution-oriented. Operators must communicate professionally with:Customers.Dispatchers.Management.Law enforcement.Fire and emergency personnel.Property owners.Repair facilities.Fleet customers.Fellow towing operators.Members of the public. Protecting the customer’s vehicle and providing excellent customer service are essential parts of this position. Being technically skilled does not excuse poor customer service or unprofessional behavior. DISPATCH, DOCUMENTATION & COMMUNICATION Operators must be able to properly manage an assignment from dispatch through completion. This includes:Receiving and reviewing assignments.Confirming important job information.Communicating changes or concerns to dispatch.Updating required job statuses.Properly documenting vehicle condition.Taking required photographs.Documenting recovery or accident-scene conditions when necessary.Confirming pickup and destination information.Reporting unusual circumstances, damage, delays, or safety concerns.Properly closing completed assignments. Communication with dispatch is required. Operators must not make unnecessary assumptions when job information is unclear or safety could be affected. TEAMWORK & INDEPENDENCE The successful candidate must be capable of working independently without requiring constant supervision. However, independence does not mean operating outside of company procedures. Operators are expected to:Communicate with dispatch.Follow management direction.Assist other operators when necessary.Work effectively during multi-truck recovery operations.Share important safety information.Request assistance when a situation requires it.Respect company equipment.Respect fellow employees.Contribute to a professional work environment. We want operators who are confident and experienced, but who also understand that no individual is above the team, company policy, or safety procedures. WHAT A QUALIFIED OPERATOR SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO A qualified operator should be capable of handling the complete assignment process: Receive the call → Review the assignment → Assess the scene → Identify hazards → Determine the proper towing or recovery method → Position the truck → Load or recover the vehicle → Properly secure the vehicle → Set up a double hook when required and appropriate → Verify all connections and securement → Transport safely → Unload safely → Document the assignment → Communicate with dispatch → Properly close the call. That entire process should be familiar territory for an experienced applicant.
