Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Join our Applied R&D Electromechanical Design team and work at the forefront of multidiscipline innovation, where you'll tackle complex, target-oriented challenges spanning hardware, software and system design. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development and implementation of electromechanical solutions for Base Transceiver Station (BTS) modules and units, including mechanics, thermal management, interconnections, power supply units (PSU), printed wiring board (PWB) layouts and overall hardware usability. You will systematically combine existing knowledge and best practices to solve real-world problems, provide technoeconomic consulting to internal and external stakeholders, and drive incremental improvements in products, operational processes and customer‑specific features. NIDC2026 Responsibilities Participate in the design and development of complex mechanical designs (product architecture, detailed specification definition for complex systems, technology (component) selection and the application of design tools/methods). Develop designs (piece parts and complex assemblies) with guidance and direction (sheet metal, plastic, extrusions and cast parts including fabrication techniques and tolerance analysis). Interface with supply chain and procurement with a focus on sheet metal, plastic and cast designs, cabling, and manufacturability. Responsible for planning and execution of prototype builds for R&D consumption. Provide sizing and estimates of work and review of product development schedules. Make decisions to deliver on goals with supervision. Work is carried out in an office and clean lab environment, with limited to no exposure to disagreeable elements. Participate in process and tools evolutions and improvements. Apply the SW Care process (especially emergency case handling) contributing when needed to the fastest problem restoration. Qualifications Mechanical Engineering University degree from a recognized university. Exposure to telecom electronic system packaging (mechanical design). 10+ years design experience an asset. Understanding of thermal design for electronic equipment. Knowledge of sheet metal/plastics/die casting. Knowledge of PTC PRO/E CREO tool. Knowledge with PCB design and manufacturing methodology. Knowledge in telecom industry standards (Telcordia and ETSI standards). Knowledge of regulatory product qualification. Self‑motivated enthusiastic team player with good written/verbal communication. Excellent analytical skills and ability to build relationships across multiple teams. Proficient with MS Office tools. Advancing connectivity to secure a brighter world.
