Job Opportunity

Position: Travel RN - PCU

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in acute care, particularly in stepdown and transplant services.

Unit Information

The Progressive Care Unit consists of:

• 34 Beds (located on two floors: 5th and 6th)
• Approximately 45 staff members, including Charge RNs, staff nurses, and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Night and day shifts have similar staffing ratios, accommodating patient needs as they arise

Patient Ratios

• Standard ratio of 1:3-4
• Flexibility to 1:5 or 1:6 in cases of Med/Surg overflow

Equipment and Technology

Our unit is equipped with:

• Bladder scanners
• Mobilabs for lab specimen labeling
• EKG machines
• AccuVein devices
• Virtual Sitter Cameras
• Workstations on Wheels (W.O.Ws)
• Hoyer Lifts and Sara Steady Lifts
• Cortrak Machine for Dobhoff tube placement
• Ultrasound Guided Peripheral Intravenous (PIV) machines

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• 1+ years of experience in acute care hospital Stepdown/PCU
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Solid Organ Transplant (kidney, liver, or pancreas)
• Experience with high-flow oxygen delivery and respiratory support modalities (Vapotherm, BiPAP, CPAP)
• Knowledge of chest tube management and care
• Experience with tracheostomy management and care
• Experience with NG/Dobhoff placement and management
• Experience managing DKA patients and insulin drips
• Strong critical thinking skills, especially in identifying decompensating patients

Typical Procedures

The Travel RN will be responsible for a variety of procedures, including:

• Wound and drain care
• Frequent lab draws from central lines
• Transfusion of blood products
• Application of soft physical restraints
• Non-invasive cardiac monitoring (NICOM)
• Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
• Plasmapheresis, in collaboration with HD/infusion nurses
• Management of heparin gtts, PCA's, epidurals, and anti-arrhythmic drips
• Central line care and telemetry strip interpretation
• Infection prevention for immunocompromised patients
