Field Services Technician – Washington, D.C./Baltimore/DMV Region

 

Quest International, Inc. is seeking a dependable, hands-on Field Service Engineer I to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair medical and industrial equipment throughout the Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and surrounding DMV regional territory.

 

Candidates may reside in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Northern Virginia, southern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, or another nearby community that provides reasonable access to the assigned service territory.

 

Pay: $24.00–$29.00 per hour, depending on experience

Employment Type: Full-time, temp-to-hire

Classification: Non-exempt; overtime eligible

Territory: Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and surrounding DMV region

Travel: Up to 80%, including overnight travel

Start Date: As soon as possible

 

Position Summary

 

The Field Service Engineer I provides customer-site installation, preventive maintenance, equipment testing, troubleshooting, and corrective repair services for medical and industrial equipment.

 

This is a field-based position requiring frequent regional travel. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently at customer locations, diagnosing equipment failures, replacing defective parts or assemblies, documenting completed work, and communicating professionally with customers and internal support teams.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Install, inspect, test, maintain, and repair medical and industrial equipment at customer locations.

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance according to established service procedures and manufacturer requirements.

• Diagnose electrical, electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical equipment failures.

• Troubleshoot equipment to the field-replaceable-unit level.

• Identify and replace defective modules, components, wiring, connectors, harnesses, sensors, switches, motors, boards, and assemblies.

• Service equipment containing complicated wiring harnesses and sensitive electronic components.

• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, service manuals, fault codes, and technical documentation.

• Use common diagnostic and service tools, including digital multimeters, voltage and current meters, frequency counters, vacuum meters, pressure meters, and related test equipment.

• Verify proper equipment operation after completing maintenance or repairs.

• Accurately complete service reports, work orders, repair notes, parts records, travel records, and customer-site documentation.

• Communicate equipment findings, repair status, and recommended next steps to customers and internal teams.

• Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, replacement parts, and company property.

• Follow all company, customer-site, safety, quality, and documentation requirements.

• Travel throughout the assigned territory, including regular overnight assignments when required.

 

Required Qualifications

 

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• At least one year of related hands-on technical experience.

• Experience in field service, electro-mechanical repair, electronics repair, industrial maintenance, medical equipment service, or a closely related technical environment.

• Ability to troubleshoot equipment to the field-replaceable-unit level.

• Experience servicing electro-mechanical products.

• Experience working with complicated wiring harnesses and sensitive electronic components.

• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.

• Experience using a digital multimeter and related diagnostic equipment.

• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.

• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.

• Ability to work independently at customer locations.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to document service and repair activity accurately.

• Valid driver’s license.

• Reliable personal vehicle that can be used for work-related travel.

• Current automobile insurance that meets applicable work-related requirements.

• Ability and willingness to travel up to 80%, including overnight travel.

• Ability to successfully complete the required Human Performance Test.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Experience servicing medical, diagnostic, optical, laboratory, or industrial equipment.

• Experience troubleshooting equipment to the module or component level.

• Experience with optical products.

• Familiarity with Command Line and PowerShell.

• Experience supporting Windows-based equipment or connected devices.

• Previous customer-facing field-service experience.

• Experience managing a regional service territory.

Work Environment

 

This is a field-based position involving frequent customer-site work, regional driving, equipment installation, troubleshooting, repair, and travel.

 

The employee may be required to lift and move tools, parts, or equipment and perform work involving standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, or working within restricted equipment areas.
