Job Title: Machinist II
Job Description

The Machinist II sets up and operates CNC machining centers to produce precision components according to written instructions and specifications. This role supports daily production by ensuring parts meet accuracy, efficiency, and quality standards, while also assisting with workflow coordination and mentoring entry-level team members within the work area.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines and equipment to manufacture parts according to job instructions, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Perform machining operations using appropriate fixtures, tooling, and CNC programs to achieve required specifications.
  • Run previously set up jobs independently and monitor production to ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to standards.
  • Inspect parts during and after production using visual inspection and precision measuring tools to confirm they meet required dimensions and specifications.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other inspection tools to verify dimensions and maintain quality standards.
  • Perform basic machine adjustments and troubleshoot minor issues during production to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including recording and reporting data using Microsoft Excel workbooks and Microsoft Access.
  • Read and follow written Lab Request instructions and other written production documentation.
  • Communicate discrepancies or non-conformances to the supervisor and/or quality engineer in a timely and clear manner.
  • Apply strong data integrity practices when recording measurements, results, and production information.
  • Use FIFO (first in, first out) methods to self-schedule assignments and manage workflow efficiently.
  • Record and document work performed each day in a pass-down email to the supervisor when working off shifts.
  • Collaborate with team members, including support staff, to meet production goals and improve workflow within the work area.
  • Provide direction and guidance to helpers or entry-level team members as needed to support their development and ensure consistent work quality.
  • Support quality control and inspection activities, including quality checks and adherence to GMP practices where applicable.
  • Work with composite materials, including carbon fiber and fiberglass composites, and handle time and temperature-sensitive (TATS) materials appropriately.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards, including proper handling of equipment and materials.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and production procedures in a manufacturing and machine shop environment.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of CNC machining experience.
  • Experience setting up and operating CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions, blueprints, work orders, and Lab Request instructions.
  • Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Ability to perform accurate measurements and basic shop math.
  • Comfort using inspection tools to verify finished parts and support quality inspection activities.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with production systems.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel workbooks and Microsoft Access to record and report data.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and data integrity.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a production environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with quality control, visual inspection, and quality checks.
  • Understanding and application of GMP practices where applicable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with composite materials, specifically carbon fiber and fiberglass composites.
  • Knowledge of time and temperature-sensitive (TATS) materials and their handling requirements.
  • Experience using FIFO (first in, first out) methods for self-scheduling assignments.
  • Experience documenting work and communicating status through pass-down emails, particularly on off shifts.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or machine shop setting with exposure to CNC machining centers.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability in meeting production goals and quality standards.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and machine shop setting with a strong focus on safety, quality, and production. The position follows a second shift schedule of 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will stand for extended periods with frequent movement throughout the work area and will work in proximity to CNC machines and other equipment, with exposure to machinery, noise, and standard shop conditions. The environment is team-oriented, with close collaboration among machinists, support staff, and quality personnel to meet production goals. Standard shop attire appropriate for a manufacturing environment is expected, and adherence to all safety procedures and guidelines is required when working around equipment, materials, and composites.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfield, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00/hr.
